  • Great game, well done to all...

  • Antonio could have even made it 8-5 at the break but the time just clicked down one second before he fired off his shot. .

Great write up Kevin, just wondered, this seems to imply that the shot went in but after the buzzer? There fore not counted? Our first game against doughballs ended because as johnH said 'the ball when out of play'. After the opposing team scored on us. I'm not calling you wrong kevin, i'm trying to work out what you did and what we did. By all means move to rules thread.

  • Yes, well spotted.

Half time is at the first break in play AFTER 30 minutes, not at 30 minutes.

  • i thought this was uburn hammer golf, not rugby?

  • The clock had gone to 30:00 as Antonio was swinging his arm. So the 'goal' went in at 30:01. But "time up" had been called out loud to the players, and the goal was not counted.

I was only watching the time and taking the scores & scorers. I didnt want to ref as I hadnt ingested the BM rules. Beagle reffed the game so direct any queries etc to himself. I was not aware of the above half time finish rule.

  • Yeah, you can't change it now.

But something to bear in mind in the future, make sure the ref know the rules, and if they don't, tell them. There is a thread on here for that reason, takes 5 minutes to read before a game.

  • In this case. It was much more of, time being called, everyone realising such, and a lazy shot by Antonio. Nothing dubious in that way.

  • Also cheers, for the games and refs

  • Yep, there was a count down by kev, so all players including Antonio knew about how much time was left and the ball crossed the line only after I blew for half time.

We weren't allowed a count down. "I asked what is the time ref" I didnt get a response. Shot. Goal. "halftime!" I was then told by JH that there will be no count downs because time continues (it had over run) and the first opportunity of the ball leaving play was that goal.
We discussed it after and i had not heard a 1 minute call, (and was told i wouldnt be getting a 30 sec or 10 sec) but i think we should still do count downs as we have always down. Its not a big deal, but i think it need clarifying John, for the sake of the game being easy to follow. (what they did, rather than what we did)
    Ya get me?

  • We discussed that at the time, Jess had been calling out the time almost every minute (loudly) you just weren't listening.

But what do you want a countdown of, when we don't know when the half will end? The ref can call 30 minutes, so you know the next stoppage in play is the half, but that's it.

  • Also, I think people have misinterpreted the half time thing (possibly I didn't explain it well enough).

It's meant to be a 60 minute game, not two 30 minute halves, otherwise you give teams too much chance to recover, and make a large part of the BM idea pointless (players should be getting tired).

I added the half time switchover to make it fairer on certain courts, but I'm starting to think that was a mistake, and should have just done a 60 minute continuous game, as there seem to have been lots of different interpretations of this.

this x1000. It should be enforced really strictly by refs cause then the lesser players on the teams will get more game time and teams wont be able to play their 2/3 'A' players for the vast majority of the game as they will be tired

No need to be patronizing JH. I already said earlier i hadn't heard. You can change it to "you wasn't listening" if it makes you feel better.

I guess you meant above was seconds and yes that is what i am talking about. I don't see any harm in a 10 second warning as i said at the time. Which is what i imagine everyone else will be doing. Getting scored on or scoring on someone isn't the point. The ball could very easily have trickled out the side and it would have been confusing.

  • I don't think anyone had read Teh Offishal Rulez™ before the game last night... Didn't affect play tho'...

A 10 second warning before what?

How is a ref meant to predict when someone is going to score/hit the ball out in 10 seconds time?

  • Seems like a silly and confusing rule to me. If a game is 60 mins, then its 60 mins, not 61 or 62... Seems very open to gamesmanship by one team just fouling the other to 'stop play'. Why not just count down as normal when 30 mins is up? I think every game so far has done this....

  • Really happy with our first game. I think having less players was advantageous to Dark&Stormy in the first half: they definitely found a great rhythm and were linking up well.

The court was especially slippy with mulch and leaves in the corners, and a broken egg in the middle of the court which was almost invisible until you front tyre began to slide out from underneath you.

I'm really pleased with how we kept our cool and focussed on developing our game rather than instant retaliation to the goals scored on us. Through a greater effort to link up in attack and support each other in defence we were able to capitalise on the easier shots and counter-attack opportunities that resulted form our focus on teamwork.

GREEN (Money, Weed, Envy)'s MVP was Chris for coming through in the second half with some vital goals and a level-headed game. Overall MVP for the fixture has to be Antonio, that guy is awesome! Great shots and court coverage.

Also, it was Jack 'The Imp' Ham-Sandwich's birthday yesterday but he didn't tell anyone. So, happy birthday!

    Yes, it's 60 minutes.

For example in the Killer Bees game, the first half was about 32 minutes, the second about 28.

In the Dragon Slayers game, it was about 31 minutes, and about 29 minutes.

Just stop time, and restart it when you start the second half.

Again, it's not 2 halves of 30 minutes, it's a 60 minute game, with a switchover roughly halfway though.

It would be pointless to foul to stop the half, it achieves nothing (in terms of time).

Why not count down to 30 minutes? Because it's a pointless arbitrary break in play, that could stop a team mid play. Doing it at the next break stops that.

But I'm coming to the conclusion that this ruling is bringing more problems than it solves (the fairness of playing at both ends). So at the moment I'm tempted to scrap the switchover, and just play the full 60 in one go (which was my original intention anyway, I was just allowing for the tactical benefit of one end at Mitch, or early morning sun at Downs)

  • This discussion is killing my desire to play polo...
