I think Bojo gave the go ahead for motorised bikes to use them same as cycle lanes, i dont know if the allowance was ever removed and if it was it was very poorly advertised.
On another note - was driving a van the other day (moving) drove straight into a ASL..so used to being in them on my bike didn't even occur to me what I was doing.
Wife commented maybe the folks in them in cars/vans ect are all cyclist like me who forgot about not being in them when driving..did feel a prat though! -

I'd be interested to finally know what the actual letter of the law is on this. If anyone can spare me the effort I'd expend researching it, I'd be chuffed.

Highway code:
HC Rule 178 Advanced stop lines. Some signal-controlled junctions have advanced stop lines to allow cycles to be positioned ahead of other traffic. Motorists, including motorcyclists, MUST stop at the first white line reached if the lights are amber or red and should avoid blocking the way or encroaching on the marked area at other times, e.g. if the junction ahead is blocked. If your vehicle has proceeded over the first white line at the time that the signal goes red, you MUST stop at the second white line, even if your vehicle is in the marked area. Allow cyclists time and space to move off when the green signal shows

Motorised bikes can't use bikes lanes. They can use bus lanes, this was decided a year or so ago.

Oh the reving!.... In response sometimes I like to smile and wave. A kind of reminder that I'm a human road user too, but I'm allowed in this box and you're not.

Motorcyclists and ASLs. That is what the junction police should be sorting out.

The only London borough where advanced stop areas are accessible to motorcyclists is still Newham, where this was trialled some time ago, essentially at the initiative of a council officer. There is no such policy on the Transport for London Road Network, for which the Mayor of London, or TfL, is responsible.

I ask them if they think revving their engine will speed up the changing of the lights.
Advanced bike boxes at junctions
am i right in saying they are for bicycles not motorbikes
-just that im getting pissed off with motorbikes filling them up / blocking them. So i pull up in front of them and have to put up with them reving their motors to scare me and try to get me to move out their way.....
thought they were designed to give cyclists a bit of time to pull away??
