  • Nice looking bike , I was thinking of getting a bell . Where did you get that on

  • Fresh Tripe. You need the spacer with a threaded hole, too.

  • Steamroller gets treated to new lighting for the winter...

First bike with dynamo lighting, really can't recommend it enough

  • I have a dynamo on my crosscheck first time I have ever used them , and I'm very impressed , I would recommend them to anyone

  • Love that! What are the stickers down the seat tube?

  • half a steamrouler:

Wondering how it will cope with a white headset and gold seatclamp...

  • Love that! What are the stickers down the seat tube?

Aye thanks, the stickers are pretentious artsy ones from the Tate. Reckon they work pretty well, though peeling a little from getting wet so don't know how long they'll last

  • Current incarnation, gonna keep it like this for a bit.

  • So romantic! I love it.

  • Looks great! maybe needs compact drops?

  • Lovely bike , great picture

  • I think you're levers are in the released position bloomers100.

  • Perhaps not the thread to discuss dynamo lighting but what's the light exactly? Does it require a dynamo hub?

  • I like surlys - I own a cc decked out for touring/off road - I love it.
I like the look of the steam roller - trouble is my knees (like the rest of me!) are getting on. Is it possible to run the steamroller with hubgears? I've just joined the forum so may have missed earlier messages concening this topic.
    Thanks

    Thanks

You'd need a 120mm hub, I think Sturmy do a few these days. I have a feeling my LBS managed to bodge a nexus (or some other brand??) hub into one, just a bit of a squeeze/stretch. It worked pretty well!

  • I have both and just run the steamroller as single speed , I'm no spring chicken , and no real probs . I do the love the steamroller , but been using the cc. Lately with this shit weather .

  • I decided i'm going to make my Steamroller a single speed or maybe even use a 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub (which comes in 120mm) just for those days when i just really can not be bothered, will eventually have at least 2 other fixed gears so may as well.

If your worried about your knees i would of thought a single speed with a fairly easy gear would be fine?

Yea it's a Schmidt set, there's a cable that runs from the center of the hub up to the light. Schmidt do the the hub and front light, though weirdly enough don't make a rear, so that's a B&M.

It's a lot of cash for a light set, but from all reports they last forever, and it's great to have something you know will light your way home when you need it to.

  • I'm very impressed with the light . I have a hub dynamo , was a not cheap but the light is very bright and never have to worry about batteries dying etc . And as soon as you start moving you have light , it even stores a bit of power . You can bye kits to charge phones etc

singlespeed is harder than fixed, best solution is two brakes if one is worried about their knees.

  • singlespeed is harder than fixed

    Not always.

  • Surly is feeling good, position and everything now feels just right, glad i got a front brake now i guess, few more things to do to finish it off though.

-Cult Dehart grips, feel and work great!
    -Bodged full/ish mudguards
-Front brake, Odyssey lever, Dia-compe calipers
    -Shorter stem
    -Cheap n' cheerful saddle

  • nice grips here. what are they?
