PAKE French 75 Track Frame Set and Carbon Forks

Posted on
  • Ive been looking around for a F+F to start my first proper fixed gear build, as ive been looking around ive come across this:

    http://www.pakebikes.com/product/CDBF75/French+75+Track+Frame+Set

Does anybody know about the Pake and wether it produces decent frames for the the relatively cheap price?

Im currently working on a pretty tight budget of around 350ish or 400 if i find somthing pretty special. Looking for somthing that will obviously get me from a. to b. but then as i progress as a rider to be able to some racing if it ever comes about or whatever.

Ive also been checking out the Leader 725, but ive heard very mixed opinions about Leader.

If anyone has contributions i'd be please to hear.

    Louis

  • UTFS would have been a good start:

What are you riding at the moment and what are you after? It looks fairly solid, 1 1/8", carbon forks, replaceable dropout plates, etc.

Have you had a look in the frames lists? http://www.lfgss.com/thread527-2.html

Bang for your buck I think it's going to be hard to beat a Dolan Pre Cursa with the extras for £200
    http://www.dolan-bikes.com/Track%20FrameSets/Aluminium%20Track%20FrameSets/PreCursa%20FrameSet?product_id=592

Otherwise if you want something more individual have you had a look at the Bike Mielec thread? http://www.lfgss.com/thread94840.html

You can have a custom frame for less than the Pake.

  • Im currently bikeless at the moment!

The pre-cursa definitely looks good value for money, however would it be more expensive to buy a new frame and build up with average parts, than buy a used complete with a good spec?

Being 5'10'' ish i believe id be looking for somthing around 55cm? is this correct?

    Thanks

  • Used will usually work out cheaper (just see classifieds here), but obviously parts will be used so they may need replacing. Building your first bike is usually relatively the most expensive one because there are so many random little parts you need that add up - headset spacers, pedals, a saddle, etc.

    Rough budget:

    Wheels - £100
    Tyres - £15-30
    Saddle - £20
    Cranks - £60
    Chain - £10
    Bars/Stem - £20
    Misc - £10

  • /I spent a while looking around last night, would a 54cm or 56cm suit me more? (5ft10ish)

    thanks for your help

  • FWIW I road my Condor Pista for the first time in a while. Every time I go back to it I remember why I love it so much. Its awesome!

I was also lookinggazing lovingly at it last night closely and its all the details that show it's a quality frame, welds, smooth brazing on the trackends.
