What are good tyres for 700c?
-
• #305
Kojak 700x35c?
-
• #306
yeah, theyre pretty big im thinking like 25c (my frame wont allow anything bigger than 28)
-
• #307
I always ran marathon 28 on my sword. £15 on Planet X.
A 28 durano might be nice. Oh and folding tyres for weight saving -
• #308
yeah i got loads of marathons but i hate the feel of them (they kinda feel square and always flat). a durano is a good idea cheers guys.

Last set of 25c Gatorskins I had were quite sticky.

Kojak 35s are actually more like 29.5/30.

These are awesome tyres.
The 30mm might work. And £15!

I just put a Marathon on the front of my commuter bike, and it fucked the handling up something rotten. It's like binary steering. It doesn't look square, but it really feels like it.

I'd go for gators or duranos

what tyres would people recommend for slippy/wet conditions?
im thinking that maybe tyres with a softer compound would grip better but have a shorter life span....any suggestions here? i've used contact sports and didn't really rate them last winter, marathons weigh a ton. People have raved about duranos but wasn't there some issues with the side walls or something? any other suggestions?
i've also upped the size of my front tyre from 1.3 to 1.5 as im thinking that there will be more tyre surface in contact with the ground thus gaining extra grip in the corners etc
would this seem accurate? -

The difference in contact size isn't significant on a properly inflated slick tyre IMO.
Wet weather grip comes from fancy compounds like Continental's Black Chili (found on Grand Prix tyres and above). They're more expensive and more vulnerable to glass cuts than 'commuter' tyres though.
Also, getting more weight over the front wheel helps, regardless of tyre choice.

What Rims would people recommend for a bombproof polo wheel such that I will rarely have to true it? I notice theres talk of both Chukkers and Salsa Gordos... they're about the same weight and price it seems - is there any consensus as to which is stronger, holds truer?
-
• #317
i love the chukkers i have, got them second hand in june and trued the front wheel once or twice as you would expect.
-
• #318
Been on my Chukkers for a coupla months, Emilié built them up for me, and they're solid as a rock... So far...
-
• #319
you'll be using the spoke key a fair bit with Salsa's..

Thanks for the feedback :)

Mavic D521?
-
• #322
I rate chuckers too, and I'm about three times as heavy as Luca. :)
Although I have broken 2 through over inflated tyres.

I rate my Rigida touring rim. Still haven't had to true it despite giving it my usual beatings. Pretty good for £5

Haven't got time to go through the whole thread. Does anyone know off-hand some good tyres for 26" wheels?
I've just gone through a pair of contis and probably wouldn't buy them again, I'm after something light but durable and relatively skinny... Any ideas.

I really like my 1.2 Duranos but other people hate them, I've had no problems... Panaracer Ribmos seem pretty popular too...
