Elaborating later on Negroponte’s hacking comment, Ed McNierney, OLPC’s chief technology officer, said that the kids had gotten around OLPC’s effort to freeze desktop settings. “The kids had completely customized the desktop—so every kids’ tablet looked different. We had installed software to prevent them from doing that,” McNierney said. “And the fact they worked around it was clearly the kind of creativity, the kind of inquiry, the kind of discovery that we think is essential to learning.”

  • The 4.2 keyboard is good, much better swyping than samsungs attempt, which has been getting on my nerves since losing actual swype.

  • You've got it already?!

  • Yeah, it's been leaked, along with the camera and gallery apps. Although I've not put them on yet as they're slightly more complicated to install. I think there's a camera apk for the galaxy nexus though.

  • Ah, I thought you might have got it OTA.

  • Nah, I'm on an S3 so won't get that officially for a while.

This also looks good for note 2 people.

  • Link to 4.2 keyboard is on previous page

  • So I have an interesting problem with my S3. It shows full signal but the data goes 3G->H->H+->3G and keeps looping. I can send txt, make calls, but can't do anything data related. It's not constant, this was happening last night at liverpool street.

My thought is that Vodaphone is just fucked due to the amount of people on the cell. I had similar with my Nexus 1, so I don't think it's actually my phone. Weirdly enough I disabled GSM and switched my phone to WCDMA and it stabilized out.

    Suggestions?

  • Just got my Sensation back from HTC repairs, new screen... I've missed you, baby...

  • Dropped my One-X in the bog today (post-flush thankfully), hasn't skipped a beat. Grabbed it pretty quickly, wrapped it in bog roll and stuck it in a bag of rice just in case.

  • I think I'd still predominantly use it for reading

Buy a fecking book, not a machine from which to read a book. I still don't get it.

Seems like a waste of money to be spending anything on an electrical device onto which one imports books that one pays for seperately. I bet my bottom dollar you could buy a nice crisp, warm smelling second hand version of the book on eBay for a tiny percentage of the price you pay for the book on download, even after you have paid for the device.

I have this feeling that in hundreds of.years time when civilisation has got over this excessive consumption for consumptions sake historians will look back at images of people reading books on screens made of light using up the last of the energy this earth has to offer and wonder how we could have been so fecking stupid.

    Use bark, not plastic!

  • just curious .. is there an app that lets you do basic photo editing?

  • Pigfqrmer is alive!!

  • Also, I was wondering about this the other day, is there a forum/bbs style group chat app?

Something like Google Talk, but more forum like, as in you should be able to upload pics from your phone into the conversation. Also embed vocaroo could be useful, even simultaneous webcam between multiple users would be cool, although I have no idea how feasible this is on current tech (I use a BB).

It would be integrated so you'd receive an alert when someone posts something or pings you. The only thing that is comparable that I can think of would be WhatsApp groupchat but that's not ideal.

  • sorry, first post ITT, if this isn't the right thread

  • Got the Jellybean update to a unlocked (international) SIII today via Kies. Nice...

    Photoshop/aviary

You have just pretty much described Google plus. All you need to do now is convince your friends to use it. Let Google know if you manage it...

  • @pigfarmer - kindle screens are not made of light. They reflect light, not emit it. Just saying.

  • Photoshop/aviary

Built in Android camera / gallery allows basic editing.

I would, but I don't have a land rover to carry all my books with me.

Viber is across iOS, Android, and BB I believe.

Group chat, send pictures, videos, gifs, files, and you can voice chat too, all over 3G/
