Ambrosio Hub Advice Needed!

Posted on
  • been riding my wheels for 2.5 years now and never serviced/changed the bearings.

so, i have the Ambrosio variation of the generic hub that all seem the same to me, do they use cartridge bearings or are they loose ones, and which bearings/cartridges do i need to service them?

appologies in advance for what must be a search fail on my part.

    Thanks

  • Cartridge 6000 2RS bearings , there are Formula and Sytem Ex threads you can check too.

  • Some help needed here please.

Am attempting to change the cassette on my campag fit Ambrosio winter wheels, but lockring is seized - although I seem to be able to tighten it further, but not undo...

Any suggestions? Have exerted a fair amount of force (enough to slightly bend the handle of my lockring tool anyway)...as a last resort, is it possible to remove the free hub without taking the lockring off?

Wondering whether it's worth it as the bearings seem to be completely shagged ( like riding with brake rub) after one winter. New fee hub and bearings would be in the region of 40 quid.

  • Sometimes takes a fair bit of force. I don't mean to be funny, but you are undoing it anticlockwise yes?

  • Sounds like you just need more leverage - stand over the wheel with the chainwhip in your left hand and the lockring tool in the other and give it a good firm grunt. Ambrosio hubs are rebranded Novatec and use standard cartridge bearings - if you can get a grip of the spanner flats in the spindle with the lockring in place then you can remove the spindle and freehub.
