It'll be showing at the BFF in a few weeks. I'll go check it out although alley-cat vids aren't really my sort of thing.

Well done Lucas and your ilk.
Cyclists will all be riding with number plates strapped to our steeds in a few years time because of dickheads like you.
Lucas Brunelle - YOU ARE A FUCKING STUPID CUNT.

Got no problem with the content, I guess every daft sub-culture needs to be documented. It's just that technically....they're a little shit, no?

I doubt that a few alley-cats that take place relatively infrequently will change much. More likely that the red light jumping/pavement riding cyclist that you see everyday will have more of an impact.

getting so nostalgic looking at the 3:35 crossing over houston.
you cant sit and look at this and try to apply the london way of reasoning about rlj'ing etc. peds in new york expect every cyclist to jump the light and 9 times out of 10 they will give you right of way and not yell/honk/scream about it, unlike here. In london people complain about all kinds of shit. I have yet to hear any random person in new york start talking and complaining about unsafe bike riding. Its just not a big disruption in a city that has much worse things to deal with.

I really enjoyed it, the footage is amazing, its well worth a watch. And at the end of the day he isn't even taking part on the race, just following who ever is at the front.

Yeah, but he is documenting the fact and showing it to the world so Daily Mail readers will jump on the bandwagon of forcing cyclists on to shitty bike paths and then both you and I will never be allowed on a road again.
Great fucking film.

I started watching it last night, I think I got about 5 minutes in before turning it off.
I just wish there was a way of erasing my view from the Youtube view counter.

yeah they should probably ban skate movies as well before the grownups and the establishment sees it and have us all banned from the malls and parkinglots, stuffed into one of 3 sanctioned national skate parks riding kick bikes.

Number plates have been for years already in some cities, since the early 90's in Chicago all messengers had to ride with a messenger no. and company no. strapped to your bag or take the risk of being ticketed.
Races like these are just a way of getting together at the end of the week after being treated like shit from most security guards, taxi drivers trying to run you down and just trying to get a decent number of runs throughout the week so you can pay your rent or your medical bills. Alleycats have been going on for years and years but still are basically for meeting folk from other companies, seeing whose on form, blowing off steam and having a drink. Lucas is just filming it, nothing will change, and messengers will continue to enjoy racing for fun and pride at the end of a hard week.

I just wish he actually filmed and edited them better, perhaps do the culture some justice.
-
• #41
if you can film smoother than him ill give you £500 on the spot and the editing was done by benny zenga
-

Benny Zenga was the editor. The film is really about Lucas and the racing and not the culture so much,Pedal is a better example of courier culture.

The "can you do better" argument never really works. Shaq wasn't very good from the freethrow? Can I shoot better no, still doesn't mean Shaq wasn't shooting bricks, no?
Don't you just feel that after 2 minutes of any of his films you've seen all you're going to see and there are no further developments, you can just superimpose any other chaotic junction scenario onto another.

I agree with you on this, most of Line of Sight is footage that has been shown before and once you've seen one alleycat you've seen them all.I do think Lucas should make more in-depth films on the" courier scene".

i didnt watch further than the first 10 minutes, i agree that it could have had more substance to it rather than just alley cat after alley cat. the odd interview/ chat with any riders or something would have kept me more interested

Shit dude, you need to chill out. You'll have a heart attack at that rate.
If you think the stereotypical Daily Mail readers are watching Bicycle Film Festival films, then you've massively over-estimated your enemy.

I haven't seen 'Line of Sight', but I've seen quite a few Lucas Brunelle videos. While they're obviously not that near to the pinnacle of culture, I don't think that 'once you've seen one alleycat you've seen them all'. What I find interesting are the differences between cities. For instance, the London alleycat video is really chopped-up, much less continuous than those filmed in major North American cities, where there are long, unbroken sequences. That just doesn't seem to have worked in London and it keeps jumping backwards and forwards between Rosebery Avenue, Regent Street, etc.
-
• #49
The reason why the London alleycat looks chopped is because,if I'm not mistaken, Lucas punctured and lost the racers.
