These are properly nice, kboy! Really like the middle one. Who's the guy? Where is he? Is it a double exposure or a reflection?
Also, obligatory "what film/camera?" comment. :)

Thanks!
Top and bottom one one is Ricoh R10 with Kodak bw400cn, mid is Bessa r3a with Kodak bw400cn.
Mid one is from Paris, it's one of those billboards where the ad rolls up and down. It had half come off at the top so was just lying in there. It's a reflection, it's me and a bridge in there

Bessa R3A with a 40mm Nokton...? nnnnnng I really like bw400cn. I love the look and it's cheap to process. It has quite a lot of haters on teh interpipez for some reason though. Purists... >>>>>>

35mm nokton actually, close enough! Lovely lens, and camera. Perhaps a bit loud when out on the street, but otherwise I love it
bw400cn is great, had some lovely results with it. Think it's sensitive to xrays though, the rolls I've flown with have lost a bit of contrast

Oh really? I haz question for you in that case. Do you wear glasses or have any experience of using them when taking photos? I guess you'd use the full viewfinder to shoot at 35mm but I was wondering what visibility is like of the 40mm framelines. #twattyfoureyes

• #4884
Yeah like that middle one.
Took me a while to realise your neither a model or old.
-
• #4885
I have one of these that I picked up for £20 or so in France. It takes half frame portrait shots, so for a 24 exp. you get 48 and a 36 exp. you get 72 and so on.
Anyone else used one of these?

All taken in Massachusettes, Holland & France.

I've got glasses too, and struggle with frame lines. I don't see the edges of the framelines, certainly not on 35mm at least. Kind of getting the hang of them on the bessa now, by aiming with the center patch and the corner marks for 70mm, then accounting for x amount more in each direction... Had to do the same with my 5D, was easier though as it wasn't a rangefinder.
Would L-O-V-E a camera / solution I can frame with properly
-
• #4888
Zeiss Ikon is apparently that solution. I guess you got the Bessa for the same reason I'm looking at them though. £$!£$!

• #4889
Oh really? Saw a chap in Paris with one, beautiful camera. Not very stealth though, you could see it from a mile away.
Yeah bessa is a cheap fix before going leica... which apparently has a darker viewfinder than the bessa so won't really solve it. Never worn contacts so don't want to go down that route either, though I've read about people getting particular glasses for shooting, that are smaller and sits closer to the eye, but that's far too much faff for me
-
• #4890
Also wearing glasses.
It's such a pain with the XA for example, might as well just hold the camera in a general direction.
With SLRs it's better, I can almost see the entire frame. When out for a job I'm getting contacts.
Try it out.
You're getting used to them quickly; buy the thin disposable ones. -
• #4891
As much as I'd like to use contacts, I think my astigmatism will stop me. I had an optician explain it to me - apparently there's contacts I can use, but as they have to be correctly aligned to work I might struggle. On some blinks the lens spins 180 degrees in the eye making me literally blind, but it'll spin back at the next blink. Apparently this happens 'every 100 blink or so', that'll be every 5 minutes won't it?

I love a good analogue camera nerd-out. Had a few with new acquaintances this summer and it really made me want to make photography a bigger part of my practice again.
I did put my workhorse (Pentax 67) through its paces this summer at least. Some results here: http://andrewranville.com/2012/rabbit-island-photographs/

Balls. I think I might be blessed with this astigmatism thing too. I vaguely remember my optician mentioning something like this a few years ago. I should probably pay more attention. Be that as it may, nobody (NOTHING) goes near my eyes! :) You'd think there'd be some sort of adapter for the viewfinder though (those crappy hotshoe ones don't count).
I've not seen a Zeiss Ikon in the flesh but they look very shiny and blingy... I like how Bessas just blend in inconspicuous like. I think I can honestly say I'm not fussed about Leicas. Apart from the steez factor I really don't see how they'd make my experience any better (just talking about the bodies - I wouldn't say no to a lens or two).
-
• #4894
Agree with Leica bodies, i'm aiming for lenses first. That said, love my nokton 35mm so it'll take a while
I've tried adapters for the 5D I had, read good things about it online but for me it didn't do any difference, it only made the viewfinder smaller. Might've been lost on me though as I learnt how to frame without lines
Think there's adapters for the bessa as well, might give one a go. Think the main issue though is that the eye doesn't get close enough, so you can't see wide enough in the viewfinder. The adapters might sort sight out, so I can shoot without glasses (ish) but that again is too much hassle

You've got some awesome work on here, should post it in one of the art threads. Particularly like the Seven Summits installation

The original portrait of that man is amazing, remember what it was?
Also, had chance to develop anything yet?

Oh, wow. Never heard of that.

I think it was just an ad for something, you couldn't really see what, think it was covered
Nothing developed yet, too busy at work. Gonna order a dark bag at the weekend though and hopefully getting test roll done soon. Been looking for scanners as well, dunno how much money this will save tbh... but it'll be fun! And hopefully better results in the long run

Been looking for scanners as well(...) it'll be fun!
I fucking hate scanning. It's tedious.
But over here it's still an unbounded cheek what they charge for high-res scans, even in a package (dev + scan / prints), so..
At moment I have a rather good 35mm scanner from a friend.
Everytime I have to use it I'm not only reminded how I hate scanning in general,
but also how shit SilverFast (the scanning software it needs) is.
I don't have enough free time for photographical pursuits at the moment and I need the cash.
So I have a CanoScan 8800F with all the slide/ film inserts, and cables and drivers.
Really good condition, a little dusty at the moment, but thats it.
http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Scanners/Flatbed/canoscan_8800f/
I'd like £90 for it + postage (will have to check, its pretty heavy and large) or you could pick it up from me in Putney on Friday or Sunday this week- with some advance notice please.
Also I have this entire set for sale. I've barely touched it since buying it here:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread81080.html
Would like what I paid back, so £95 picked up as above, £105 delivered to your door.
And finally a Lomo Lubitel 166U, there's a little bending of the name-plate, and a chip of plastic behind that missing (full disclosure) but all optics are great and it works perfectly. Comes with a couple of B/W rolls of film for £35 picked up £40 delivered.
Sorry to spam the thread, but I don't really feel like starting a thread. Maybe later.
