  • Yeh, we were there talking earlier on, which I think is what the interviewer was hinting at. I don't remember the Charge guy actually saying they were developing a frame in his talk. The Charge guy came across as a very profit driven businessman, so I'm sure they would if the market was there but right now I don't think he'd go near it.

    That makes sense.

  • I didn't think he was talking about making a polo bike, or even considering it. Later on in the chat he mentioned that he wanted to reduce the number of bikes in his range, so I wouldn't expect it.

    But then he also said that it's retailers who want spurious 'model years' where nothing changes except paint/stickers (yeah right), and that Shimano are consipiring to reduce the availability of hub gears so they can sell more 11 speed chains. Paraphrasing a bit on the last one, and generally the chat was really interesting.

    I don't think retailers in the current climate are after model years, especially from a brand like Charge. At the moment it's generally accepted that value for money is going down, why we put 2010 and 2011 bikes on sale when they're better equipped than the 2013 model is a bit beyond me, but apparently the consumer demands that (?!?! I don't believe that at all!)

    The last bit is fairly common gripe among bike manufacturers and distributors at the moment, even Madison themselves are complaining that Shimano are bullying the marketplace in order to serve their own agenda.

    Not entirely a bad thing, manufacturers will back Sram more, and I've seen more bike manufacturers in recent years back other largely unheard of gear component manufacturers, but usually at their cost unfortunately

  • Snoops: I love them, they're not as fancy as the Paragons but they work easy enough. One thing though; since painting them the one side tends to stick, I think i need to take some sandpaper to the sliders to get excess lacquer off.

    Louis, those cranks are square taper. Square taper is dead to me. It's interesting that it doesn't say they're anodised but 'gold plated'.

    I'm getting Middleburns for Christmas I hope. Also a riser stem (maybe even a gold one for total overkill).

  • They are gold plated as in, a thin layer of actual gold is on them, rather than being anodised gold colour...

    That could have something to do with the huge amounts of grey imports hitting these shores too

  • True, more a concern for the likes of Garmin, GoPro, lighting manufacturers though.

    I've since put on a slightly shorter stem, as my back was killing by the time i got home last night, and now just need a front disk guard, and its done.

  • i would take a link out of the chain to increase tension. and obviously put the gear shifter elsewhere if you can, whatever it is will break when you have a bar spin crash incident!

  • its so nice to ride, both to the court, and on it.
    but yeah i'm experimenting with stem set-ups and the spacers, so ill address the shifter when i find the right set up, but i hadn't considered that, thanks.
    in terms of deraillier protection, i'm a bit limited because of the trackends, but im utfs.

  • I played with shifters like that for about six months and never broke them.
