  • I'm after a Pashley delivery bike, ideally something like that:

    http://www.pashley.co.uk/products/pronto.html
    http://www.pashley.co.uk/products/mailstar.html

I'm 5ft10 and ride a 56cm road frame so something around that size would be ideal.

The bike will be used to make wine deliveries so it needs to be able to carry a decent amount of weight.

Let me know if you have something suitable.

    Cheers

    Vince

  • Whats going on Vince? New job?!

  • Try this

You'd have to ask the seller for the height, theres loads on the bay. Search for trade/butchers/delivery bike, they normally +£150

  • My family makes Champagne and I will start stocking it in London so I need a bike that can handle deliveries.
The Pashley Postman looks ideal for the job, realistically, I will carry 4 cases so that's 24 bottles or about 40kg

I've got an auto search on eBay, thanks Vox

  • may not be available anymore but worth a try http://www.lfgss.com/thread91314.html#post3083812

  • Thread updated - Pashley Pronto or Mailstar anyone?

  • Hi
    Have you tried ebay?

  • Hi
I have 2 butchers bikes , one is complete and one needs work to make useable , I am asking for £230 for both , this includes 2 new tyres .

I have an auto serch on eBay, there is one Royal Mail bike that fits the bill on it a the moment but it is too far & no postage available.

Thanks for the offer but I want something that can also carry weight at the back as 4 crates of wine at the front would make the bike highly unstable. (4*6bottles*1.7kg=40kg)

    Cheers

  • Bump - still looking on eBay with no luck

  • 4 cases champagne, 40kgs, surely you'd want a tricycle? :)
    It's apparently Pashley!

  • No space for a tricycle I'm afraid...

I'm planning on getting the rear rack modified on the Pronto/Mailstar to perfectly fit cases of champagne

  • Awesome. Can't wait to spot you out and about!!!

  • It's not a Pashley but good for a business startup...
    http://vintagebikecave.com/shop/french-postmans-bicycle-50cm-complete-with-uniform-and-post-box/

It is a good package deal for someone, unfortunately it is not sturdy enough to take the weight of champagne bottle.

    Also the frame is tiny.

I actually have a similar one here in London,52cm ST, 57cm TT, coaster brake, massive rack - I will be selling it shortly...

  • Found a brand new one on Gumtree but it is in Nottingham... This would actually be ideal

  • Hi Vince

I might have just what you want!, I am based in Suffolk and it would need collecting, let me know if that is Ok and if so I can send photos, it has fittings for rack at front and panniers, built for Royal Mail by Dawes, it is maroon as it was a sample, very similar to the Mailstar. Just pm me if you need photos,

  • Why not go for a bike trailer? You can get some compact ones.
I would prefer to pull a trailer due to the problems you'd encouter due to the high center of gravity when loaded with 40kg of liquid on board.

I feel like a trailer would be bouncing all over the place, am I wrong?

You would obviously need to watch where you were riding and not go bumping up kerbs on it, but no they are incredibly stable considering.

The point I made about the liquid is quite important and you could find yourself in a situation where you find the bike unusable and a waste of money.

The liquid in the bottles is not a solid (obviously) and behaves very erratically when you swerve from side to side and will cause some balance difficulties, quite how much I am unsure, but being as though the bottles are placed quite high up above the center of gravity, the 'sloshing' effect could be unsettling and even dangerous.

    ?

I actually saw that one a while back.

I don't want to go too old as the parts compatibility isn't great and these bikes are likely to have had a tough life already. No rod brakes either. Also after a rear rack...

    Picky, I know!

    Cheers

This is available, may be a bit big though?

  • Saw that beast the first time it was for sale then again this week, I am unfortunately not a giant...

I'm in total agreement. I've tried hauling a similar volume of liquid, on quiet roads, on a bike with a lower c of g and would never try it again especially around a city centre. A trailer or tricycle is what you need if you're gunna be pedal powered.
