Calshot track can you just turn up and ride?

Posted on
  • hi. I've ridden calshot before, with an organised group. But can you, say on a saturday morning, just turn up with your bike and ride the track? Or do you have to book an official session each time...

  • Consider going to Newport, it is warm inside in the winter.

Bigfoot have sessions you might be able to join in

  • it's a long old way to newport from me but i'm not gunna rule it out. I'm in haslemere. Maybe herne hill has 'open day' type things, i'll investigate on this forum

  • Yeah Herne Hill has open days in the winter; open to people who have ridden the velodrome before and have their own bike, check out their website. Their regular open training sessions don't start again until Spring I believe.

  • You can also ride the indoor velodrome in Stratford. Just turn up and ride, any time you like.

  • Do you mean the olympic velodrome at stratford ? i thought this was only available from 2014 ???

  • I think RPM was taking the piss.

No way. Just turn up with a bike (any bike will do) and say that Rob sent you and that you are on The Forum. They will let you on immediately.

  • ha, good to get a laugh on a monday morning thanks CliveO

I've just been over there this morning, mentioned Rob's name, and all I got was 'who the feck is he?' Aghast I was. Then they said they were only joking and I could ride around on the track for as long as I want, but could I turn the lights off when I'd finished.

Get yourself over there. Remember to mention Rob's name.

  • Did you use the mountain bike or the BMX?

Yeah just turn up and ride. Same with most indoor velodromes in the UK, they're free. Just jump on if you've got your own fixie.

  • I was practicing my skid's round there yesterday, they even let me on with riser's on.

They are so helpful. It does not even have to be a fixie.

I thought turning up on this would be a problem but, no sir mister, just mention Rob's name, and they waved me in!

That makes sense. They said to me to leave the lights on and the doors wedged open when I'd finished, probably to make it easier to get your motorbike in. Were you motor-pacing the Acadamy Squad (who apparently do not need to mention RPM's name to gain acccess) or just there for your own bit of fun? I bet you smashed the 250m lap record on that!!
