I have decided to make a little record of one of my(many) current projects.
My girlfriend and i recently purchased a Mercian tandem(thanks Dez) from some elderly club members. They had been using it for time trialing over the past 10 years.
We instantly fell in love with it. Though we felt for what we want to use it for( charity rides, country tours and maybe the naked bike ride), it was a little too human centipede for our liking.......
Decided to convert it to a relaxed riding position.
Added MKS sylvan track pedals, Rolls saddles, swopped the bars and replaced brake levers.
would like to try and incorporate all the colours of the head-badge logo.
Unfortunately the last owner had used a 26.6 seat pin in the rear seat tube and not 27.2. Due to the clamp being over tightened it has caused a crack into the frame around 1cm deep. While looking at the frame I noticed another around 5mm deep on the front seat tube also. We are reluctant to use it until we have sorted the problem.
I have posted and asked for advice on a few forums. The consensus is i should man up and drill a 3mm hole below the cracks and file down to meet the hole. As soon as i grow some balls, this is exactly what i will do......
