Hi, thanks for the replies - unfortunately, I can't return to Fuji for two reasons; the warranty lasts for two years and is only attached to the original purchaser, proof of purchase is also required, so the only way I might be able to do it is by attempting to bulls**t a Fuji dealer - but I don't want to do it. By the way, the guy I bought if from rides for a race team and the bike was part of a sponsorship deal that included trips to Newport Velodrome for training and racing. After two trips to Newport the funding was pulled and so he sold the bike to me - it was almost brand new. So he doesn't have the proof of purchase, and the funding company went bankrupt.
Just some thoughts and advice I have been given: apparently, the split by the seat post is fairly common and doesn't mean that other parts of the frame are defective - it is one of those things that can happen without there being any obvious cause. At the moment the bike rides perfectly - it is as fast as a whippet and, in my opinion, feels like a well tuned instrument, it is almost a case of hanging on while the bike takes you for a ride!
I had thought about putting a ring on the seat post just above the junction with the frame to avoid it slipping down in case the split gets any worse at the moment the seat post does not slip at all.
As mentioned earlier, Edwards bike shop in Peckham said that for £30 they could weld an aluminium patch on it which should cure the problem - this could then be painted white to blend in with the frame colour.
I would happily keep the frame if I intended to use it more, but I just haven't used it as much as anticipated and, whilst I like having it around the flat because it looks great, my other half is pestering me to free up some of my bike clutter.
