The old green Triumph made it back home. The system works! Picked it up from Bethnal Green Police Station earlier today. I had pretty much given up hope but surprisingly the cops did a good job, following up with multiple phone calls and such.
A few quick notes:
-Reported the bike stolen through the MET website and Cycle Task Force. Emailed in photos of the bike.
-They took the bike off a sketchy guy on Brick Lane trying to sell it, cited him for not having a vendors license, joked with him about the bike being stolen goods, not actually knowing it was.
-Did a search for Green Triumph on one of their systems/databases and came across my report.
-Called me multiple times.
-Had me come down and identify the bike in person, filled out a couple police reports.
-Got the bike back and road it home!
A couple other notes:
-Bethnal Green Police Station had about 200 stolen bikes in the back yard.
-Cop said that the vast majority of them didn't have "losers" and would either be shifted on to some organizations if "roadworthy" and others would be eventually crushed. Damn shame.
-Cop inferred that getting your bike marked/registered by one of those schemes is pretty much worthless.
