    The arms of Monoplaners intersect each other and so might be said to operate on one geometric plane, hence the name; whereas the D500's arms are one on top of the other, in the conventional manner, so operate in two planes. The second D500 photo shows the difference most clearly.

    Athena was equipped with Monoplaners in 1994 (when Chorus gained dual pivot brakes) and 1995 (when groupset names were added to components). The '94 version was fitted with one-piece brake pads, whereas Chorus had metal holders and wheel guides.
