If you want a full mudguard set, you'd want a bit more clearance between the tyre and the seat tube.

Oh yeah, I see what you mean, i think they would just squeeze in though, don't really want the wheel any further back, unless i decide to use 32c's or the fix-fix hub
-
• #1254
why not? what difference does it make? a little clearance can't hurt.
-
• #1255
It already has more than enough clearance, 1 more link would put the wheel at the end of the drop out, i like my bike nippy as possible and it just looks nicer
-
• #1256
I know this is a stupid reason not to, but i hate how they feel in the wet with dirty rims, its like my brake pads are made of sand paper.
Get Koolstop Salmon.
Also I seriously doubt you can feel the difference of 1 link unless you're extremely anal.
-
• #1257
Well i have no need to put a link in any time soon
Read good things about those brake pads, i will think about it.
-
• #1258
i see no reason to have one.
Is that why you're called Aches and Pains?
-
• #1259
Nah, i work night shifts and always complaining about various aches and pains, it seemed appropriate at the time
-
• #1260
It may develop a new resonance if you ride without a front brake
-
• #1261
I have been riding brake-less for ages now, no problem...
-
• #1262
No problem yet.
It's not just your braking performance you need to worry about
-
• #1263
...so, what else is there?
-
• #1264
Your knees.
-
• #1265
That is a true story, Ed.

Says the guy who went touring on a fixed gear? :P
If i needed a brake on any fixed gear it would be my Dolan or anything similar, i rode that at a much faster pace, I hardly even skid on my Surly, or even get out of breath actually, much more relaxed pace and i think it will stay that way
anyway, really like my Surly, i would even say its my favorite bike i ever ridden, just by the fact its so pleasant to ride from A to B on, just want to keep it simple as possible.

• #1267
I would agree with the last statement .
-
• #1268
Me too - best bike I have by far
-
• #1269
So, any front brake or full mudguard recommendations?
-
• #1270
I had dia compe bsr 101 and sks chromoplastics on mine using pclips
-
• #1271
SKS chromoplastic and P-clips - my 'Roller is pictured with these higher up in the thread, but here it is again, totally uncool with two brakes, bell and mudguards:
-
• #1272
Nothing wrong with 2 brakes, you got a nice looking set up there.
Those mudguards seem like the best option i guess, they got to be popular for a reason

and two brakes without needing to slow down using my knees.
-
• #1274
yeah but you still had to climb the hills
-
• #1275
Which is exactly where the fixed wheel bicycle is perfect for.
Looks good . Wish i
d had mud guards today ,but at least its not cold . I.
m a big chicken I ride single speed with both brakes .Nice colour : ) yes I do hate that about the brakes they do make a mess . Anyone recommend good brakes ????
