Aliens got him.

His mum doesn't look very happy about all this. I bet he's grounded when he gets home.
^See what I did there?

Slight delay but consistent.

That looked amazing when he rolled the door back.
-
• #17286
Did he break the barrier or what?
-
• #17287
Holy cow. They don't even know if the parachute will work at that height.
-
• #17288
well he didn't break the freefall record.

All of the people in the control centre have comedy voices.

If this was in the UK he would have to fly round Heathrow 5 times just to get a landing space.

dunno. The sea-level 20 deg C number is 761.2 mph which he didn't reach. May just have gone fast enough to reach the Mach 1 speed of the cooler air he was falling though.

• #17292
Looks like the end of "Seven"
-
• #17293
that was impressive stuff, man he got balls bigger than King Kong

But no protest about girl being shot for wanting education? Hmm..

It varies, so depends how fast he was going and where it was:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_of_sound#Altitude_variation_and_implications_for_atmospheric_acousticsI think he made 726 mph (324 m/s), maybe more, and fell from nearly 40km up, so if the atmosphere was close to standard, then yes, it looks like he went supersonic. Wonder if observers on the ground detected a sonic boom?

More to the point, is there any actual skill in what he did or could anyone who uses a parachute have done it?

I think he made 726 mph (324 m/s)
1340 km/h.
After the landing he himself said he had no idea whether or when exactly he went supersonic,
he was apparently busy with 'a lot of other things at the moment'.
What's going on? Last I heard before it buffered again was Kittinger saying "sorry Felix, pack red LED is on'. Presumably red LEDs are bad, right?
