There is also a huge difference between young fans throwing themselves on someone famous, which happened all the time, and which still goes on today, and someone preying on young girls against their wishes.
I hardly knew Peel, though I met him several times and corresponded with him loads, and was aware of his admission of his early life before he met his wife, but I doubt he continued such behaviour once he was in a relationship with Sheila. And I would listen to his programmes endlessly, the same cannot be said for any other broadcaster. I am sure you all remember Home Truths. The mark of a really warm and genuine man.
