Cut it off, buy a new one, don't lose the key.

What with - do I need an angel grinder?
-

Depends on what it's made of. A 20 year-old lock may be made of chocolate, so a hacksaw might be enough.
Have a look on youtube also - you may find that your lock could be opened more easily.

Will do. But back in the day it was a very good lock so I don't recon a hacksaw will do.

If you're in south London, Balfes Bikes will come and cut it off for you with a portable angle grinder, and sell you a new lock with lots of spare keys.

hello@balfesbikes.co.ukThat's a cracking idea but how do they stop, erm, the more unscrupulous type? How do you prove it's your bike they are freeing?

Had the same some years ago - locked bike in town centre to a tree and then lost the only key - had to turn up with a set of 2 foot bolt cutters (handed down from my grandad) found a copper and told them I was not really stealing my own bike - bothered - not a bit - help yourself was the attitude. I now have 37 bikes...............joke..........but story is true

You mean from the shop's point of view? I suppose you can't, but it's not really an advertised service and it'd be a pretty long winded way to get a bike if you're into the bike stealing business.
I reckon you'll get through it with a saw, if you are stopped I'm sure they'll just check your details and so long as you're not a convicted bicycle thief they'll just let you crack on with it.
Good luck.

My gf once broke the key in her D-lock so couldnt even get the spare in there, I went to the nearest bargains shop and got a hacksaw for £2. It wouldnt touch the D ring itself but with plenty of elbow grease it cut through the other piece. (that was a tesco special £6.99 D-lock) I was glad to see the back of that turd piece security!
however 6months on and she still wants to share my lock!!

Dredge.
I lost my keys this morning. Somewhere between stoke noobington and borough. 2 kryptonite keys and a magnum key on a blue carabiner. Beers if anyone stumbles across them. Cheers

Kryptonite offer a replacement key service as I discovered last week when I finally got fed up of my lock sticking and sent it back for repair.
I have a Trelock D-lock which came with a small pink key and is at least 15 - 20 years old. I have lost the key and do not have a spare or the replacement code. I have lost the key. Any ideas, humorous ones appreciated as well as to best way to open it.
Cheers!
