Surprisingly there shouldn't be any calf overlap - if you watch the front wheel of your bike, it doesn't turn past a few degrees except at below walking-pace. You don't get calf overlap when riding a penny farthing, either. Not that I've tested it or anything... it's just a fancy sketch really.
