Right, sorted it, they seem a bit picky about usb cables, I had to try three to find one that worked.
Having grabbed the download from the site this morning, and reflashed them, both lights are working perfectly.
I have only one minor issue with them, which is that the mounting 'toe' is too short, and means that they are closer to the centre of my wheel than I'd ideally like, but that's fairly minor, although I will tweet and suggest that it's extended in the next batch.
Work colleage was suitably impressed when I rolled up and showed them to him this morning though, looking forward to taking them down to Critial Mass this month, the ability to create your own patterns is all manner of win.
