  • that's great! would make a cool racer

  • just bought a 6.0 litre L98 engine for my new project car. engine de-laminated one of the main bearings, but crank is untouched. perfect for me as was going to re-do most of the bearings. this is a later version of the Ls1 specifically for australia (same engine in my other car). much better starting point as it has the L92 rectangular port heads, which flow 312cfm factory. going to be a lot easier to squeeze out some hp. still going single plane manifold and carby though. so selling a lot of shit that comes with engine, so get an engine for very very cheap.

  • Why carbs rather than injectors out of interest?

  • 3 words. budget, drag, car. i care not for idle but 7k+ rpm.

  • Fair enough, I don't know carbs so I've no idea how easy they are to tune.

Injectors you can map with a laptop and a wideband, carbs you have to swap the needles I think?

    Hazy memories!

  • Costs about half as much to buy a carb and appropriate fuel system for big hp. Pretty much only tune for wide open then not much to fiddle with unless you have big temp / alt changes. Oh and I popped out an o-ring from the injector rail today - 43psi fuel leaks are fucking scary!! (Don't get that with carbs....)

  • I wish I was the guy who built this

Classic car + turbo rotary, moves to NZ, lovely wife who helps building the car and bikes...

Fffffffuck, lucky it didn't catch fire??

  • Puts into perspective the 800+ psi Bloodhound hybrid ran at.

  • Fffffffuck, lucky it didn't catch fire??

Very lucky! Still can't figure out how it happened either as the rail is pretty solidly mounted. We did go through a bump with a bit of a clang not long before?

  • Shit assembly? Knackered o-ring?

43 psi is pretty high, are the o-rings rated that high?

  • Assembly is fine, two metal brackets holding the rails to the manifold. O-rings came with the injectors so all rated for current use. Fortunately it didn't split - undid bracket, gently eased it back in and it was all dry and happy again.

Disconcerting though to say the least.

  • Very odd. Maybe one just wasn't seated properly.

  • ls engines run 58psi, whats that 4 bar. sounds like the wrong size. rubber or viton?!

i know nothing of carb's but i want to learn. lucky there is a new section on ls1tech dedicated to carbs :) . only problem is i'll be running an e85 carb. still lots of info floating around.

also i dare not play with electrics in an old car ever again.

  • Rubber. Didn't 'feel' like the wrong size - i.e good compression fit when I put it back together. I need to take the rail off and order a new set, really.

I'm much better with bike carbs (not much difference.) It's a pain in the arse trying to tune lumpy engines not to fall on their arse at small throttle openings. So doesn't matter at all for drag racing. You going 4150 or 4500?

  • Also look at inlet length.

What make is the set up.

  • A mate of mine is looking to get a BDC license and compete next year, so ahead of next month's licensing day, he went to a drift day at Lydden Hill to practice. I tagged along and took some photos. His is the Black R32 with primer front wings, the others are various people, some pro, and the E30 is a JDM Allstars competitor (seriously good)!
