    Happy first tag Chung.
    Nice ped. capture.

  • Cheers. I hope it's not too nondescript. More clues can be given if needed.
    That ped. was boss cool.

  • I like that lion, one of many large monumental beasts that looks somewhat forlorn, melancholic, anxious despite its stature.

  • Welcome to the game, nice avatar.

Thanks. It was too nice an afternoon not to join in.

That said, I stupidly managed to crash my bike into a wall on the way home.

  • cycling on the pavement?

  • Just to reiterate^
You crashed going too fast on the pavement?

  • You were drunk no? Sounds like your frame is fucked.

  • ^^^ Why is this in Bicycle Tag of Bike?
    And to reiterate pavement?

  • Won't your mum let you ride on the road?

This has to win the prize for "closest tag to an existing tag without actually being a re-tag"

  • Good tag.

Vaguely similar, yet altogether different from one I was going to use..

  • Not the same. Look at the fence.

  • Close though.

  • Good spot-the-difference.

  • I was initially riding in the slip road but the road to the right is the Blackwall Tunnel Approach and I thought using the empty pavement would be safer than negotiating the dual carriageway.

  • Fair dues vertually any riding is acceptable or sometimes necessary to avoid that poxy roundabout though riding drunk is soetimes not a good idea.

  • Good spot-the-difference.

    Needs more swans.

  • Can someone with a firmer grasp of the facts give some info on the lion? Nick? John? Si? Katy?

  • It was made in 1837, and was originally red and one of a pair* that stood on the frontage of the Lion Brewery by Hungerford Bridge. It is made out of coade stone, a highly durable stoneware invented by the witch Eleanor Coade, with a unique property that allows statues made from it to spring to life and take action in times of danger - this is how the it survived the bombing of the brewery during the blitz. Since then it has sprung to life only once, to save a small girl who tripped in front of a bus on June 3rd 1981, but it is also said that when the Queen Mother died it cried tears of finest gin for 21 days straight.

*the second lion was released into the savannah in 1953 and despite fears was reported to have adjusted well to life in the wild

  • Ha! My understanding is that it was indeed made of coade stone, an artificial stone from late 1700's surprisingly resistant to weathering. Its pioneer, Eleanor Coade, allegedly took its exact recipe with her to her grave.

Coade called her creation Lithodipyra meaning stone-twice-fired and apparently into the mix went this:

    10% of grog
    5-10% of crushed flint
    5-10% fine quartz
    10% crushed soda lime glass.
60-70% Ball clay from Dorset and Devon.

A witch though? Well, you must have been reading Macbeth recently or something :-)

    • Double, double toile and trouble ;
      Fire burn and Cauldron bubble

    and

Eye of Newt, and Toe of Frogge,
Wool of Bat, and Tongue of Dogge,
    Adder's Fork, and Blind-worm's Sting,
    Lizard's leg, and Howlet's wing,*

  • I'm paranoid my first tag is crap so here are some more clues.

  • I've heard that the South Bank Lion is grade II* listed. My tag is located somewhere not quite as important. Not as liony, but at least as old as the priory.

    Eye of Newt eh?
    So cliché.

We witches are just another minority being stereotyped.

  • good work tagging the coade stone lion SK. we missed it on the BToB ride because i was shouting at your fast disappearing back that we needed to stop!!

  • Compiled 20 or so image links and captions for the map if anyone wants to wean themselves gently into map editing. Pm me if you want them.

Now then, what about this current tag. Who's feeling plucky?
