Is that toughened glass in the ceiling? seems like it has a greenish tint. -

Heh, no that's plasterboard- I need to paint it tomorrow.
My "used to look like this" photograph:
The shower tray is where the broom is in the second photo.

I also have something which appears to be a punishment cupboard with two locks, Regency wallpaper inside and written pleads from children all over the walls ("Love you mummy!")

Just got the shower door which I bought on eBay out of the garage- I reckon I only need to take 5mm of each side and it will work.
This would be a result in terms of £.

^ How much weight will that save?

I'll put the offcuts on the scale for you, it's an alloy frame so I'm guessing not much.

Replaced dimmer switches with normal ones in 5 rooms today, all the wires were brown... thought that sort of bodge job was very illegal?
I marked all the L1 wires with green tape and swapped like 4 like across the switches... #whatcouldgowrong?

I did that. Hated the constant zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zapping noise from cheap or old dimmer knobs.

My shower door now fits, I managed to adjust it rather than having to trim it- great success!
Right- fireplaces, who knows about them then?

Nice one. Well done. That's saved a few coppers.
Fireplaces eh? I've tinkered / bodged. Ask away.

Ok, the current situation is the result of a misunderstanding- I had been told that the chimneys were all out of action, and that using your fireplace was verboten.
This was no biggie anyway, as our fire place had been bricked up long ago, as had everyone that connected to out group of chimneys.
So, when "adjusting" one of the rooms I took the back of the chimney out to make a bit more room.
Then we discovered that (as long as we had the thing swept) we could have a fire.
SO- I want to put a fireplace back in, and restablish the chimney.
I can do the brickwork, but how do I line the damn thing?
-

some useful considerations for lining chimneys > http://www.fluesystems.com/liners/info/chimney_liner_regulations.htm
are you not concerned where it exhausts?
-
• #748
I'd make inspecting the rooftop arrangements the first job- I've never been up there as it's kept locked.
If that end is ok, I could drop a liner down, however there would be ~3 feet of unlined new brick flue with just a liner in it, and that'd be the hottest part of the chimney.

insulate it, the details are all on that fluesystems link

I'll get reading, cheers.
