What borough do you reside in? Are you involved with any lobbying/LCC campaigning already?

I'm carrying out personal research into the communications used in cycle safety campaigns and would really welcome views. Have a questionnaire that I can e mail though in short the questions are
- What cycle safety campaigns are you aware of?
- How were you made aware of them eg newspaper article, cycling newsletter, online content, word of mouth etc.
3 how was social media used and how effective do you think it was? Eg better or worse than radio advertising - What are the advantages and disadvantages if using social media for cycle campaigns.
Thank you so much. Nick-odonnell@hotmail.com

**Tonight it's Southwark Cyclists' AGM (sounds a lot grander than it is) at City Hall from 6pm. **Drinks and food after at Del Aziz, Bermondsey for those who come to the meeting.
If you'd like to come to see what we do, meet us, get involved and maybe even stand for one of the roles (we do need rides, website, press and funding officers), please do! http://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/sc-agm2012
Thanks,
Alex

I received this from my local MP in the post today.
I'm quite surprised I received anything TBH. Alas, it would have saved the planet if he emailed it.
Ho-hum, I'll let you all decided on his answer (see pic attached)...

Well he doesn't say anything new or particularly exciting but at least you got a response. Did you blank your name out or did they just not bother with it?

Love it.

Indeed, he is a fat, sexist, sly old bully.
One of those hideous part-time (with 4 money-making enterprises on the side) MPs who represent all that I hate in politics and yet who never get elected out.

I got a word for word copy of that letter from my MP, (not Fatty Soames, but Sly Sharma) the only difference was the final paragraph. I wrote back pointing out that he had missed the point, that safety measures were not the same as justice for victims, and would he please address my concerns as he is supposed to be my representative in parliament. I am still waiting to hear from him

I blanked it out along with my address.
Why?
Because the tinternet is dangerous place and people might recognise my name from the whiplash parties given at Madame Zaa Zaa's Emporium of Pleasure and Pain.

Taken from Wikipedia...
According to the book Women in Parliament published in 2005, Soames has been named as the 'most sexist' MP, with several female MPs stating that he has made vulgar comments to them.
and...
In other accusations of sexual harassment it has been alleged that Soames makes repeated cupping gestures with his hands, suggestive of female breasts, when women are trying to speak in parliament, in order to distract them.
plus...
On 15 May 2008 Soames was disqualified from driving for two months, fined £200 and was ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and costs of £35 by Crawley magistrates after he pleaded guilty to riding a quad bike on a public road without insurance. A photograph of Soames driving with passengers who included three children and a pregnant woman, was taken from footage filmed by hunt saboteurs in Slaugham, West Sussex, on New Year's Day.
What a totally spiffing chap!
*The Surrey crowd do breed 'em well. Thank God we are all safe with this individual of a caring nature looking after us all.

Rumour has it, we may be about to have our way in Southwark. The Council is strongly hinting that it will soon make an announcement about plans for a 20 mph speed limit on the roads it controls in the borough. About time too!
Peter John, leader of the Council, just told me on Twitter: "Hoping to make an announcement on this soon."
Cllr Hargrove said today: "Speed on our roads and speed on TfL roads has to be slowed down We really do need to cut speeds. If there is a legacy for Hichame Bouadimi, Ellie Carey and all the other unecessary deaths on our roads, it has to be that speeds on our roads of our cities are cut. We will be taking this forward as a council to say that 30 mph on our roads is too much and we want those speeds cut."

Are you a wealth creator? I thought not. So why do you wish to impede those who are?
When Mrs Lady Thatcher talked of a 'great car owning democracy' perhaps you would have preferred her to say 'yes, General Galtieri, take our Malvinas, do with them as you wish'? -

Meanwhile, change is afoot across London. Few (if any) of us have been thrilled by the rather ad hoc manner in which TfL's junctions review process has been conducted, but there's little point moaning about it now.
You can all have a say on the way currently dangerous junctions are redesigned: https://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/22780.aspx
Some Southwark reviews coming up include the Abbey St/Tower Bridge Rd one where Ellie Carey was killed last year, and a pedestrian injured more recently:https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/betterjunctions/tower-bridge-abbeyst
