Why are the QR's facing down?

We are into religious territory now .. There are people who feel quite strongly about the orientation of quick release levers.
My thoughts ..
On a bike used only on the road, as long as it is tight it can be pointing any which way, it really does not matter .. unless you're bunch riding in which case you don't want it in a position where it could hook up with another wheel. If you align the quick release lever so that (when closed) it will be parallel to a solid piece of the bike, like the fork or chain-stay IMHO it makes it harder to get your wheel off when you want to, because you can't get your hand easily behind the lever to pull it out, that's why mine are facing down ..

I've always wondered about the correct position. Surely for aerodynamics it's better to have them parralel to the road facing backwards? Not that I need aerodynamics;-)

The 'correct' position is levers upwards and parallel .. but as I said I'm not a fan of doing that. In terms of aero going bolt on is the most aero for the TT specialists

not sure how would I have to ride to get me QR undone by other rider wheel/QR. Been looking at the bike for some time now and somehow cannot see that ...
Can you tell me if that actually happened to you? and maybe how?
-
• #13
It's never happened to me .. but in a bunch ride, you don't want the quick release in a position where they could hook up if you get stupid and halfwheel someone, or catch a tire otherwise it'll come loose. Same with the back, you don't want someone running up on you ..
