I didn't have a helmet as a kid. My mum told me she'd break my legs if I fell off my bike and I believed her, so I never did.
I've never had a cool one :(

In fairness I wore it all of about 3 times. Whilst a lot of pros wore them back in the late 80s almost no-one on the streets did and as a 10 year old I was of course concerned about what me mates thought/considered cool.

I was more concerned about my mum breaking my legs. I really did believe her, the evil witch.

Been desperately searching for a shot of my first helmet. It was red and black with a picture of a dog on it, moving with fast legs (sonic style).
Work of art. Made by mad dogs, or mud hogs or something in between.

Mine was the 80's version of this, used for Skating, not a bike insight. I broke it in two after bailing a huge air at Livingston Bowl, circa 88........ I don't bounce anymore! -

Halfords Skid Lid in highly tasteful acid lime green.
I went head-first into a tree with it once. I think the tree came off worse... -

It was about 1988. I was 10.
That moment.
The moment when you think "haha you're well old!".
Then the maths click in your mind and you realise you're older.

I believe these may have been the only helmets on general sale in new zealand from about 1985 until the turn of the millenium...

Muine obvs had all the stickers stuck on though, still have the bike as well at my parents, it has double disc wheels, I'm prettyt sure its heavier than any other bike ever made.

Good times indeed. I misjudged the lip on the bowl, came back into the bowl and hit the floor like a spaghetti falls on toast. I was up there on Family Hols, great park back then.

Had an old one of these in the shed which my dad insisted I wore when doing 'dangerous' BMXing.
And how sad did I look.....

I had one quite like this. Instead of the octopus and co. I had a picture of Bart Simpson doing an ollie. I thought it was the coolest.
It was about 1988. I was 10. All my heroes looked like this:
so I got this:
....and looked nothing like them.
What was yours?
(not interested in arguing over the pros and cons of helmets)
