Sorry, just realised they don't advertise them as C-Record but just as Record, i.e. those are new hubs, not vintage.
Still, would be interesting to hear if the black colour is done by Campy or by them. And especially if the black of the sheriff stars was original or not.

Can't remember where they were discussed but pretty sure those are Russian knock offs.

By the way, got a reply from mashsf, the black parts are not anodised by campagnolo, but in the US:
info@mashsf.com:
[INDENT]Hi,We are buying silver cranks, and hubs, and anodizing them here in the bay area.

Campagnolo to my knowledge never made a black C-Record Strada or Pista.
C-Record Strada chaintrings were available in so-called Century Finish. Its a smokey blackend silver. It was not terribly popular since one of the great features of Campagnolo was the wonderful silver finish.
To my knowledge, the "Century Finish" was exclusive to C-Record parts including Delta brakes. Chorus too was available in an alternative finish but it was more grayish (graphite) than black.
I do not recall Graphite or Century finishes being available for the track group.
I suspect the black chainrings were not from the C-Record era. Its hard to tell the difference between C-Record and later chainrings as they all use the same 135 pattern. New chainrings, for example, fit on old C-Record Strada cranks just as today's Record Pista cranks (more or less unchanged since the 1990s) accept any 144 chainring including those from the NR and SR days (as well as any modern NJS chainring). -

Croce D'Aune (both with and without delta's) also came in century finish^

Black anodization is a simple operation. But why? The silver finish of the C-Record is just wonderful.
Black components are fashionable since component makers have an economic incentive to market them: they are less costly to make.
Doing a high quality finish as Campagnolo and Cinelli were once reknown for is expensive. Due to labour costs and the improvements in machine automation, the cost component of making a part in a good silver finish has risen dramatically over the past 20 years. Black is a "downgrade" sold as an "upgrade". -

Yes. I somehow pushed it out of my memory.. Oddly, I think I might have seen more Croce D'Aune in Century than even Record. Croce D'Aune was just such a strange group. It seemed to have been sold as a top-end group for those that did not ride :-)
Hi,
I guess some of you have seen the black
C-record pista hubset on the MASHSF store for 525$:http://shop.mashsf.com/products/campagnolo-record-pista-hubset-black
My question is: is the black anodizing actually vintage/original or have they (mashf) made them by giving normal silver hubs to an anodizing place?
Anyone who knows the story behind them??
I also saw black sheriff stars on Ebay via prollyisnotprobably.
