Help with resources

  • Hey all,

Apologies if this has been covered before - please point me in the right direction of so...

I'm after a decent resource for "bits". "Bits" being things like concave washers for brakes, crank bolts, the little caps that go over cable housing etc...

I've searched eBay etc and it seems the states is good but the postage is massive (e.g. http://bit.ly/UriQKV) <--- it's some of these I'm afte right now.

When I lived in London it was easy to get stuff as there are handy shops/cafes everywhere. Living in Brighton & Hove the shops just aren't here (tried x3 places on my lunch just now and no joy).

Anyone found anywhere online you can make orders for stuff like this?

    Muchos thanks!

  • I think most of the bike shops in B&H would be happy to help - where did you go?

Baker Street bikes have helped me out a couple of times with fiddly bits - no charge either so I chucked a couple of quid in the charity box.

Syds2 in Hove have also come up trumps previously.

Namrick (nut & bolt store) on Portland Road is always worth a look see, its the kind of place that you have to visit just to see the sheer amount of stuff they have - always pretty helpful, sometimes a bit gruff but you usually come out with the thing you went in for.

Sorry, no help with an online resource!

  • Hey BG,

I think you're right about most shops - to be fair I only tried two near my office and both came up with nothing; I even phoned up Prestige in advance to see if they had some crank bolts - they said they had, so I showed up, and they didn't.

I then tried Hove Cycles - I've been in there before for very simple things and never come out with anything...

And yeah, the nut and bolt store! That's very near my house so will head up there soon - nice one!

  • you can post in the wanted thread mate, i have got and given free stuff, spacers bolts, bits, etc. lots of friendly shed heads with parts bins to rummage through. good luck.

  • Baker St Bikes, Amsterdamers, Cranks, The YMCa @ the tip. Two outfits in Farm Rd. All of these places and more are very helpful for small parts.

  • http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/ is your friend (most of the time) for bits

  • Cheers to the tips y'all.

I just spent another lunch break around Hove - went to Syds and Nut and Bolt store yet still no joy. Those concave washers are akin to unobtanium!

  • Are looking for a pack or just one or two?

You could try Webbs in Boundry Road if its just a couple you need - old school bike shop: http://webbscycles.com/

Or as mentioned above, Aarons & Kevins in Farm Road have loads and loads of second hand parts.

    Good luck!

  • They're called saddle washers. Measure it up and google it - I imagine it's a bog-standard ISO part.
