Actually what the fuck are we talking about? Buell 1125R or GTFO
Absolutely, the best choice ever

Engine size is relative, too many bikers get caught up in the macho side to it (I'm a tool and I own an 1100). However, it depends on what you're using the bike for and what engine configuration you go for.
As someone getting used to riding you'll find smaller cc bikes cheaper to insure, mostly more nimble and better through traffic but they can run out of puff on long distance high speed (75mph plus) jaunts. Horses for courses innit.

So ive tested a Ducatti Monster 696 and Honda Hornet and can't decide between them. The Ducatti is more fun to ride but im concerned about the running costs. The Hornet feels nice but im worried that I may get bored of it and wish i'd brought the Ducatti!

Buy the Ducati.
You can always earn more money. You can't make a Hornet interesting.Running costs won't be that high. Just keep on top of servicing it.

Just turn 20
Had my full licence for 3 years now looking to purchase my first big bike
Been riding a hyosung 125 for the pass 2 years just like some advice as to should I jump straight to a 600 or take it easy and get a 250?Sell your Hyosung to Tanya.
I got a 400 and was glad I did.
It was a huge step up from a 125, it took me a year and a bit to crave more power.
When my two years were up and I got the triumph it took me bloody months (and a crash) to gel with the thing. If I had hit it straight from a 125 I'd be dead. -

Hobo where are you?
There are a few ducati specialists about. But they are quite fun
-
• #2835
found that a 400 shows you that power is not needed just skill and a forgiving bike.

Meh...needed for what?
A track set up 400 sports bike on british roads will have you pissing blood. Not to say that they're not enjoyable but they're not really forgiving.
I'd consider something like an ER6 as a road all-rounder. They look pretty funky, can be made to handle well and you can tune the nuts out of them if you get bored.
Or an old monster 900, anything really, fear tends to act as a natural break on exuberance. I used to crash loads more on little bikes precisely because I was always trying to squeeze every last drop out of them.

400 have around 55bhp and with good suspension set up, to me are a real hoot. Skinny enough to wizz in and out of traffic, learn to be smooth and keep the power on. How about a supermoto something like a DRZ400sm they are a hoot.
Ha to your fear comment, when young I had no fear, no natural break and the ability to bounce, now less so. Still crash and often wondering what happened to cause it.

Ah in that case hobo check out the insurance.

I've skimmed through this thread having decided to get a motorbike, great read and many pictures to drool over.
I'll be doing my CBT, getting a Honda CG125 and then do the A2 in a few months time once I determine if I'm getting use out of a motorbike.
Only issue is cheapest insurance I can find for the CG125 is £490 for Third Party or £690 TPFT! That seems ridiculous for a bike that will only do 1000 miles a year and is locked in a public garage. Is this normal? (I'm 24 and live in Stratford)

Man, SS400s are awful in traffic. If you set up the suspension properly, your wrists are going to take a pounding, they've got crappy steering lock, little / no torque, poor visibility and the NC30 in particular has a stoopid high first gear.
On smoothish twisty roads or a racetrack, I like them but everyday in London, nein danke.
DRZ400s are OK but heavy for what they are and underpowered. I love supermotos around town though - I have a monster craving for a Husky SM510R, (especially the injected version) but you can't easily reverse the gearshift and I have a bit of a nightmare with conventional these days.
Hobo - good call on the Monster, they look ace.

Personally I'd look at cb1, bandit 4 (a baby bandit its about) xjr4 something with handle bars as.
Saw a nice srx4 conversion the other day.
Oh if you are worried about turning circles don't get a rs125.

Fuck. Seriously considering this as I seriously need to get away. But have to get the Kat prepped first as she's running a bit ragged due to out of balance carbs.
Also I'm paranoid about being on the ferry, I'm the world's worst when it comes to a scuff or scratch on the bike. If an indicator got cracked I'd be forced to kill someone.
Plus, accommodation and security when we're on the trip. I'll bring a good lock and a cover but what about accommodation? Pip, pip.

Last time our bikes were in the hotel garage. And they were fine on the ferry. Well secured. And your Kat needs a good run.

If I had a bike like yours I would be worried. I have been on the ferry with my motorbike for years and never had any damage. The only problem is the straps they put to secure it run onto the seat. They put a big cushion in between to protect but the foam will be really compressed and weak stiching (like on an old aftermarket seat cover like mine) can be a bit damaged. On the other hand this is what garantees the bike will not fall if the sea gets nasty... I suppose having a central stand is a plus...
I think that considering the areas we will be visiting in France, and providing we are being reasonnable as how we park and where, the risk of bike theft would be lower than London...
Now if you need to kill someone, I won't help if you need to deal with the local authorities!!
They are tough as fuck, don't mess with them!

Why did Suzuki name it "Hayabusa"?
Because in Japan, the Hayabusa hunts blackbirds.
