I think it wouldn't, because the USE ring can't pass the solid pentagon when rotated 36°
Filing the chainring would work, to make the space inside the inner tabs of the chainring into a pentagon rather than a circle, as shown on the attached pic
There shouldn't be a problem with the thickness of the spider tabs as long as SRM have copied Shimano precisely to keep the chainring spacing to the correct spec, since SRM use Shimano rings.
