The Aurora AFX (HO scale) system uses smaller cars with a pin as opposed to a shoe to guide them. Coupled with magnatraction from the motor much higher speeds can be achieved, but you cannot hold a lap at full throttle.

Well, I don't think it could really go down much further as cost price was about £30, so unless Model Zone got a great deal they are already losing money on every unit.
