Searches disappear after a few minutes.

They disappear as soon as some other factor could alter the search results.

That is, if you did a search for members it would cache the results. Except, as soon as a new person registers then they could potentially have changed the search result, so if the cache is older than X minutes it will discard the cached results.

They are saved for a minimum of X minutes, where X varies by type of thing searched for... but the caches are purged when new items could alter their result.

The side effect of this is that searches are purged quicker during the day (more new things), but the overnight search links could work for hours.

I'll quit boring you now.
