  • i was thinking a sort of list of lists style thread. categories; subcategories for comfort, price fit etc etc.

  • if you look on the website of rapha ( http://www.rapha.cc/ ) they have a list in categories wich you can fill in with cheaper stuff , I hope this will help you on the way

  • I need to kit myself out for winter, from top to bottom and have about 400 dorra to do it.

i was thinking an attrition or stealth on the top some overshoe integrated waterproof trousers

    any help appreciated

  • Shorts.
    Tweed plus fours/twos
Dutch urban umbrella riding. About to take off in the U.K

  • lots of layers, so you can fine tune what you wear to how hot/cold/wet it is. rather than wearing a warm waterproof id go for a thin waterproof, and then a long sleeve jersey and a thermal base layer or something like that.

  • lard

  • Goose fat and newspapers

  • i want some trousers like these http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/46/e8011/endura-superlite--waterproof-overtrousers.html but with padding and thermal stuff already so i dont need seperate leggings underneath

  • you will sweat to death in them

kerob suggested the better solution - layers and lightweight waterproofs

if you know what is best already, why are you asking questions?

  • Massive thick gloves.

    Massive thick shoes/overhoes.

Brushed lycra will look after the rest, or youre cycling too slowly.

With a budget of 400 notes I'd be looking at the DHBs winter line.

  • You can't beat Gore's range for waterproofs imho.

  • Quite like the look of those Condor own-brand tracksuit tights, with the multi-coloured elasticated ankle cuffs (???), they look comfy, considering them as a cheaper alternative to full on Swrve trousers

  • Usually go for Swrve WWR 3/4 shorts, Milkwaukie hoody, cotton scarf, Mavic winter gloves and ankle socks, but when it get's really bleak that little bit of exposed calf kind of ruins the whole cozy winter vibe.

  • rugby socks and shorts, perfect winter wear

  • Loads of buffs.

  • Loads of buffs.

Top tip, this - buffs are the shizzle.

  • On the Clapham to Temple daily TT I used to rock double Lonny D tracksuit, gloves with rugby socks over the top and a balaclava.

Shoestring budgets always produce the funky fashion vibes

  • Mission Workshop just released, actually opened to pre-order, a new waterproof jacket : The Eiger.
    695 US Dollars.

    Here...

  • A few things that made Winter last year a bit more bearable:

    Mudguards
Clingfilm over the toe of shoes under oversocks/overshoes. Surprisingly effective.
    Merino baselayers
    Castelli Gabba Jersey
    Rapha Pro Team Jacket
    Thermal Bibs
Arcteryx Composite Jacket for the commuting side of things.

They are made by tudor sports, a great little UK company. You can deal with them direct and they have a range of kit:

  • I just took delivery of a Mavic Cyclone jacket. It's the bollox

  • Hope it lasts longer than mine.
