  • I haz skid marks, do they count?

  • he he, LFGSS welcome committee strikes again

    We're all sucha lovely bunch

  • to put it simply don't lean at much. its not necessary, now go practice!

  • ice / wet grass / gravel / tarmac > pro

This is how i did it ! starting off leaning forward and as your legs get better/ knees get more fucked up, stop leaning forward as much and eventually you can skid sitting down.

  • oscc

    but tight clearances, etc etc

  • I cant skid

  • I've been trying it on grass as there is less grip to get my technique right and then trying on the hard stuff but it's all a big learning curve!!!

  • Mostly cool handsome fit men who can skid.

  • I did a skid once, went straight through my Michelin... never again.

    Pricey business this skidding malark.

  • you don't have to lean forward to get weight off the back, ive never done that, ive always found it super awkward.

the easiest way to get weight off the back is by lifting the back wheel, get used to lifting the back wheel up (just tiny hops) when you're going slow/not skidding. then apply this when you come to lock your legs and skid, but at that point don't actually lift the wheel fully. it sounds weird, but once its locked in you should be able to hold the skid. you should be able to sit over your saddle and do this no fuss

  • This should help you with the basics...

I would say there is quite a difference from skidding in a hipster meet like that, than actual proper urban riding.

  • orly?

  • Skids are for kids.

    and underwear.

  • everbody skid

  • Obviously what they were talking about- look at the cogs.

  • I'm a noob, Had my first fixie for 4 months now, Found it to be a stark contrast from the mountain bikes I rode growing up.
I want to learn to skid (I know, eye roll) I've been lurking round youtube and this forum since I first got the bike, some of the things here were part of the inspiration for me going fixed.
There's nothing I haven't seen or read about the matter and I'm still not quite there. I'm sure with practice it will come and I'll be able to join the mocking side of things ;).
I find directing the back wheel sideways into the skid helps things lock up nicely. (Without having to hump the stem)

  • Having a smoke will help.

  • Having a smoke will help.

And not just when you're balding up your back wheel!

  • Practice on grass!

    Wet grass

  • It won't burn.
