Looking for a lightweight Single Speed Frame

  • Hi

    Thanks for reading

I have been riding an old 531 Avanti SS for the last couple of years

Would now like to lighten it by replacing the frame

I would like opinions on which Carbon or possibly Aluminium frames would be recommended by our knowledgeble readers

By way of sizing I ride a 63 cm Cannondale Super Six and am 6 feet 6 inches

    Thanks in anticipation

    Steve

  • Here are some options:

I believe they've concluded that you have to take a Dolan Seta.

  • dolan seta
cannondale caad3 / 4 road frames with eno excentric BB to get the chain tension right
quite a few planet x carbon frames are pretty light
keep an eye out for reynolds 753 frames those are pretty light very skinnt tubing

The real question is does the OP mean SS or fixed? So many of the nice light track frames have no provision for rear brakes which is kind of handy when using a freewheel. Same goes for forks.

  • Hi

    Sorry

Should have stated that its a SS with rear brake, its very hilly on my ride

    Cheers

  • Why not just leave your Cannondale in the same gear?

  • Anyone got one of these

    Would welcome any feedback

    Thanks

  • Why not just leave your Cannondale in the same gear?

Thanks but not the direction I would like to take

  • i have a couple of caad3's and a caad 4 at home ... great, stiff ally frames
caad3's are amongst the lightest frames you can buy according to weight weenies

  • How would I get the chain tension on a vertical drop out bike
I don't want to waste weight on a chin tensioner
    Is there another option
    Thanks
    Steve

  • Buy this wheel, very good price for what it is.

Just saying .. a chain tensioner and a decent road frame would probably still be lighter then the lightest track frames and depending on road hub used lighter then the other option of an ENO hub (something like 325g for the hub!)

  • This is true but you end up with a dished rear wheel and messing about to get chainline correct. A cheap second hand langster frame and forks could make a good starting point for a light SS build, just don't go daft like Dammit did.

  • What about something like those alu willers or boardmans? Both secondhand tho.

  • Also I know the focus here is on weight, but can anyone think of any alu track frames (or OTP's) which are driled for a rear brake?

(not a Nelson - there's only onesize left)
