Life is better when your brakes are cables left/front.
Do they reverse brakes/gears on the continent? Just occured to me that they might? Right = front brake and rear dr just seems correct to me.

they have the brakes the other way round in america. I rented a bike and the first thing they said was that the brakes are probably the other way round to what you are used to.

Shifting is the same, it's just the brakes. We're the odd ones out. Sheldon reckoned it's something to do with being able to brake and signal to turn across the oncoming lane at the same time, and since we drive on the other side of the road to the US & most of Europe, our traditional setup is just the other way round to theirs.
In any case, the way calliper brakes are designed means left/front is a whole lot nicer to cable.
