Hopefully next year we'll have lights so can carry the sessions on a little into the autumn, or at least not shorten them due to light.

  • Any winter turbo fun on the cards after last year's hiatus? Happy to turn up and dance through a routine someone else has prepared if you're short of volunteers.

  • I didn't realise that plans and proposals for lighting had reached such an advanced stage. Lux levels indeed! Looks very exciting.

    Will depend on:
    A. The site not being a construction site (track centre things, lighting etc)
    B. A new temporary portacabin in which to run the sessions
    C. Some people to run them

  • thank you for today everyone. sick session, back to normal speed! Good segmentation by the coaches and good pacing initiatives in the last few laps

  • Yes that was fun. Perfect morning too.

  • I really enjoyed my basic session the other week. Well done to the coaches and the atmosphere was great. There were a few riders who thought they were a bit better then they were, but they soon got put into their place, because my other half was watching from the side and she said there was a lot of shouting going on in that particular group! As I said before, I really wish I'd dragged my sorry ass over there a bit earlier in the year because not only are the numbers up, but winter season is nearly on us!

  • Stepping up to intermediates this weekend. 'ulp.

  • Will go early to watch intermediates!

  • Didn't really recognise anyone at the intermediates today, first time back in maybe 5 months, hurt a bit

So many people waiting for the induction, heard that they're running two sessions from next week, before and after the beginners.

  • Sorry bailed out this sat due to an exhibition at earls court, will be back next week!

  • I slept in, so just went along to basic again.

Glad I did actually... the coaches did something that they haven't done the few times I've been along before. They split the group into three (white, blue and ghost lines), with the bottom riding slowest, up to the top line, where the pace was pretty brisk.

Felt like a good way to get an idea of what it's like to ride in a group at a faster speed - feel a bit more confident about taking a crack at the intermediate session now, even if that is two hours long.

were you involved in 100% design?

  • ^ wouldn't say i was involved, went for my company to see what was it all about, pretty stunning stuff i must say though.

  • i liked the concrete worktops they felt sooo smooth.

  • I preferred the high end sweeden aluminium movable tables.

  • sorry trackies

  • PLEASE HELP! Despite my best efforts of keeping my watch in 1 piece, I failed! So, If anyone finds a piece of a Nike watch(looks like a shiny USB with the time on it) in the center of the track(by black blocks), or up by the grassy car parking bit close to the huts then please let me know or hand to a coach/office. I would be so super-grateful I will buy you a beer/esspresso/6 pack o'kronie - you can choose :)

Ah, so that's what it was. Someone found it yesterday during the morning training session, no one claimed it so I think it got left on the podium. If you get down there tonight you might find it still there if you're lucky.

  • I dont stay close, and can only get down there for Sat due to work etc this week :( If anyone sees it, and can hold onto it or give it to a coach until then I would truly truly truly be very very relieved!

  • So how busy are the novice inductions at the moment, still on Olympic fever mode?

  • Pretty much, but now they have split the induction class into two classes (12pm & 2pm)

Looked insane on Sat, there will be two sessions on a saturday soon

Thanks for letting me know. Sadly when I checked the podium on Sat it was gone :(

  • Nasty crash at the extra Basic Training session tonight, really hope the riders involved are alright, although one of the guys looked badly hurt. Really showed the importance of having a good awareness of where other riders are on the track, and of letting people know if you're passing them. Sadly the ones who came off worst were blameless. HTFU* lads.

I went to my second intermediates on Saturday and found it really tough going. I had had a tonsil infection since my previous session, and could maybe try and blame it on that, but I just felt really unfit, and the effort required to stay with the groups sprinting off the during the exercise just made me a snotty, coughing mess, and I ended up calling it a day 15 minutes before the end.

After that rude awakening I thought I'd give the Basics another go and went up there tonight. I imagine it was due to the timing (starting at 5.30pm) but there were only two coaches present, and none on the track. And less riders.

After the breakneck speed of Saturday's session I found today a little slow, and won the hare and hounds race by a fair distance after me and an 11-year old junior left the other chasers behind while we were doing half-lap changes. Needless to say I enjoyed it greatly!

The step up between Basic and Intermediate seemed fine in the first session, and like a glacial shelf for the second, but that might have something to do with my own fitness in the meantime.

The only thing for it is to work hard all winter and start again strongly next summer.

    *Heal, not harden
