For Sale: 57cm Shorter Lo Pro - Complete

Posted on
  • In the interests of marital harmony (I own too many bikes and spend too much time faffing about with them) I offer for sale a rather nice Shorter Lo-Pro.
    Frame measures 57cm square
    Front wheel is 700c.
Components are a mix of Campag and Suntour Superb - spec below.
    SOLD
Im based in Windsor, would consider posting at purchasers cost and risk. Happy to meet in Richmond Park after work for test ride.

Saddle is now a Rolls - but you can have the turbomatic if you prefer

The pedigree of this whip is slightly mysterious as it has no serial#. The previous owner purchased it unbadged, believing it to be a shorter. Mark the mechanic at Finchley has seen it in the flesh and Alan Shorter's seen pics, both think it's a Shorter but it can't be confirmed who made or rode it... likely to be ex. Leo RC TT bike. Don't know what it's made of as it has Reynolds dropouts and a Cinelli crown, but takes a 26.8mm seatpost.
The celeste respray is by Bob Jackson.
Here's the front and rear shots

The kit on it is as follows
Wheels are Campagnolo rims on Suntour Superbe Sprint hubs, chainset's chorus, brakes are modolo speedy, headset's campag record, bars are chopped & flop cinelli crits, the seatpost is a san marco aero, pedals are look brake levers are shimano 105, rear mech is suntour (Superbe? -not sure) stem's ITM

Any questions, feel free to ask

  • are the rear drops horizontal by any chance? can't quite make it out in the pics, and looking to build a single speed... cheers

  • if you split dibs on frame and forks depending on price

  • Bump.

Great price for a whole bike

  • Also interested in frame+forks, if you split.

  • Surely you could let another go? This is most certainly a keeper.

  • This is a pretty ride for small money. Good luck bump

  • For the sake of matrimonial harmony....how about the lady sells some of her shoes?

    Lovely bike btw!

  • might be a bit of a rookie question but when you say the bike is 57cm square is that the effective size or the actual length of the top tube? thanks

  • To clarify I'm about 5"8/5"9 and wondering if this bike would be a good fit with some adjustment?

  • Hi thanks for all the interest/feedback, apologies for the delayed response; I went out last night shortly after posting the ad. and have only just returned.
I'll respond to the PM's individually but in addition, here's some further info.

Sorry they are Vertical dropouts so if you want to use this as a fixie slave you'll need to get out your wallet for an ENO hub or get out your sliding ruler and work out the magic gear.

if you split dibs on frame and forks depending on price

I think it's quite nice as a whole (IMHO the part mix is reasonably sensitive and period correct) so I'd prefer to keep it intact if I can find someone who wants it....
But if it came to splitting I'd suggest that the frame, forks, headset, BB, & Seatpost could go for £220 - does that sound reasonable?

I think so. I'm not completely closed to offers, but wouldn't let go of the bike for something that started with a 2.

    Lovely bike btw!

It's nothing serious and certainly no ultimatums: my bike habit's gone a bit out of control this summer and we've recently sold our house &my collection will go into temporary storage in the in-laws shed so I thought I'd better show where my priorities lie - see if I can raise some funds for a trip away during half term!
The reason that this whip gets the chop is that I'm starting to think about building a slightly more rock n'roll vintage TT bike, more along the lines of Alf Engers, I'll be getting the pillar drill out for some Drillium-shenanigans and there are only so many TT bikes a self-confessed TT-hater can actually own.......

might be a bit of a rookie question but when you say the bike is 57cm square is that the effective size or the actual length of the top tube? thanks

The 57cm TT measurement is the actual C-C of the slope not the effective TT.
I'll get the tape measure out and check the effective TT tomorrow when there's some daylight. Being a 700c/700c Lo-Pro the slope's not particularly viscious, so I'd be surprised if the effective TT is less than 55cm
I've got gangly chimp arms so I favour long top tubes and 120mm+ stems.
I think the ITM stem on this bike is a 120mm IIRC.

To clarify I'm about 5"8/5"9 and wondering if this bike would be a good fit with some adjustment?

5'8" would be at the smaller end of the scale depending on your leg length
I'm 6'2" but sadly I only have a 34" inside leg (which is why I ride so slowly)
As you can see I have quite a bit of seatpost showing... if you had a 32" leg you'd be fine (but would probably need a shorter stem). hope this helps... what size of frame would you normally ride?

re: Chainset/Front Mech. I've currently got a 52T front ring and don't bother with a front mech or inner ring as I only use it for rinsing along flat roads and have never taken it into the hills. There are braze on shifter bosses on the LH of the downtube, and cable routing for a front mech. I'd happily chuck in a 39T 135bcd chainring and a matching Suntour Superbe front mech if you thought you'd be inclined in that way.

  • Thanks for the reply Rik I usually ride a 54cm, my legs aren't the longest so that's me out, good luck with the sale.

  • ^ Cheers for getting back to me BBlack, I think that if you're normally on a 54 this might be a bit of stretch

  • Fuck! This is the sex, Rik good work!

  • ^ One of the nicest things anyones said about it!
It rides as good as it looks - Surely someone wants to buy it!

  • So so tempted. Have a few q's, will pm int morning

  • I'm sold...don't get paid till next week though..fuck sake!! this looks amazing

  • Rik, if you can hang on till next week it seems OjT is money laundering for you..... I'll politely step out thanks

  • OK - there's a bit of interest from other forumongers via PM's
I'm in no great hurry, happy to wait till payday etc, but in the meantime I won't turn away eager buyers with the cash (early bird gets the wom and all that)

  • Did this sell?? Need to know before wife has me spend the cash on home improvements!!

  • It sold.

    Lovely Rik.

  • ^ This

Went this evening to a friend of Pasha
