So it sold for £280?
Hi everyone,
I have a Ken James Low Profile bike for sale. Awesome 90's yellow, classic british craftmanship and best of all, it's ready to ride!
Ken James was an independent bike shop / framebuilder located in Ashford, Kent. He retired in 2007 (22a Beaver Road Ashford - Kent TN23 7RP Tel: 01233-634334).
I have built this bike for a friend who has now changed his mind. Without the CSB, this has been a labour of love as I have purchased the frame off eBay with the wrong forks (700c instead of 650c) so it took me a long time and a lot of new parts to get it to its current state.
The bike feels like a 55cm bike, it is currently set for me so I would say it’ll be good for someone 5ft8.5’ to 5ft11’. The bike has been serviced and is ready to ride.
Frame: Mid 90’s Ken James Reynolds 531 with reinforced gussets. Top tube is 55cm (59cm diagonal), Seat tube is 48cm/58cm (always weird to measure) – rides like a 55cm bike; couple of scratches on the paint and one small dinks on the top tube. Internal rear brake cable routing, bosses for 1 bottle. Front spacing 100mm, rear spacing 126mm.
Forks: 650c chrome forks (thanks Whittle), new 1 inch headset & 1 inch spacers – you can cut the forks lower and slam the stem if you wanted a more extreme riding position;
Wheels: Front 650c, Shimano 600 HB6207 hub with QR, radial spoke pattern, Mavic CD4 rim, Continental Grand Prix 650cx24 tyre; Rear Shimano Exage FH-HG50 Uniglide hub with QR, Vuelta Airline 2 rim, Kenda KwickRoller 700cx26 tyre.
**Drivetain: **
■ Chainset - 170mm SR Royal Double Chainset, 53/42T with Sakae chainring bolts and metal dustcaps with 1,370x24 Bottom bracket;
■ Shimano RX100 7 speed indexed shifters;
■ Campagnolo Record double front derailleur;
■ Shimano 105 RD-1055 7 speed rear derailleur;
■ New 7 speed Shimano HG-50 cassette (12-21T);
■ New 7 speed YBN Anti-rust chain;
■ New gear cables (inner+outer); and
■ Shimano 600 / Dura-Ace pedals (not on the pictures).
**Brakes: **Unbranded black front calliper, Condor 60 years silver rear calliper, both with new pads, new inner/outer cables;
Cockpit: 25.4mm Profile Design Bullhorns (40cm CTC), Dia Compe aero levers, new yellow bar tape, new 3TTT Pro Chrome 100mm stem (Columbus).
Asspit: 27.2mm Alloy seatpost cut to 250mm to fit in the frame, Fizik CP Pave gel saddle with titanio rails & yellow scuff guards.
As the eBay seller said ‘This is a superb time trial framset with sloping top tube and reinforced gussets’.
The bike has been fitted with a lot of new parts, it rides really well and just needs a new owner.
The bike is in Brixton, I will cycle to Chancery Lane with it next week so come and take it for a spin.
Price wise, I am after exactly what the bike cost me to build, that’s £SOLD.
Cheers
Vince
