  • Found that quite challenging last night. How did everyone else get on?

Hard but fun. Especially liked the steps with the sharp right hander immediately beforehand!

  • Website says no dealers. WTF.

Order it from Norway. I'll collect it and deliver it on to you......

.......some time in the distant furture.

  • ....Now you've me read the full spec. Fark.

  • My crankset's fucked, it was a sugino 110bcd with a 38t ring, the BB's shot as well. So I need a replacement, something stiff, lightweight, cheapish and strong.
I was thinking middleburn but I don't think I can afford it, any similar suggestions?
    Single only and 3/32

  • ^ Are you a shimano hater?

^ CX 70 approx £120 or CX 50 around £70. Bit fugly, but shimano cranks do tend to work well.

Shimano Alfine crank? Looks pretty good value at around £60 with BB. There was silver one going on here recently.

  • looks like i'll be signing up to the halfords cycle2work scheme in october, does anybody know what the process is for getting a bike that isn't normally stocked by halfords?

  • I really should'nt be looking. But this, in my size only, has had 40% knocked off i at my local sports mega store thingie. Has rack'n'guard mounts too.

  • Ok, challenge Smallfurry time:

    • CX frame
    • Di2
    • Disc mounts
    • BB30

    Go!

  • Just a frame, not a complete bike, and BB30 is required.

    What does being Di2 involve?

I imagine the cable guides are riveted alu (cheapest way of doing it). So a small drill hole through the side, and some fine file work would turn them into zip tie mounts.

The battery mount could be epoxied on solidly enough.

  • Alu option. Although may not be frame only.

  • I suppose that one could request that Hongfu left the cable guides off and drilled holes there instead.

    What could possibly go wrong?

    Van Dessel Gin and Trombones

    Why do you need holes?

I thought the electric cables where set up much like a hydrualic hose. Using zip tie mounts. The cheapest way of attaching a normal cable guide to a carbon frame. Is via a riveting process. So the guide and its base are one alu unit. If you drilled a small hole on the side of the guide, then filed it open. You'd basically get a hose guide, for zip-tie use, without touching the carbon. (see orange marking on excellent diagram)

  • Just neater to run them internally I think.

They run externally on my road bike, and it's quite tidy, but would be better if the cable vanished into the down tube just by the head tube/down tube junction, only emerging again right next to the mechs.

  • can you not use the holes for the internal cables?

  • I don't know- I have only any experience of the external wiring.

  • You won't get cable outers into a frame designed for internal wire cable routing. Not without widening the holes.

Leaving the rivet guides off might be easy. I guess they clear coat after guides are installed.
    I dunno. Ask.

I thought that was a good find.
    You're hard work.

  • the hong fu has internal cable guides, can you not use those for the much thinner electric wires?

  • Shimano Alfine crank? Looks pretty good value at around £60 with BB. There was silver one going on here recently.

This is what I'm using on my Pompino. Seem all good apart from some shoe rub after two days of riding. Tried out some Middleburn Unos but getting a 42mm chainline was giving me too much of a headache.

Didn't read that far. Might need some encouragement with a dfemel or small drill.

Epoxy on a battery mount of some kind?

  • aren't alfine cranks butt ugly though? I don't feel it'll match my thompson/USE kit...

  • Get Record Pista then if you can afford it :p

I'd say the Alfine crank isn't fugly, but I can't say it's a beautiful crank. But for £60 it's an epic bargain.
