Clive James is not quite an idol of mine, but definitely an influence. He's one of the few people I find genuinely funny. Much underrated broadcaster and writer, even though that didn't stop me buying a ticket for a talk of his but then forgetting about it until later in the week. Not that he noticed, the bastard. His books are brilliant though, as were his TV shows at New Year before going out and caning it entered my head as a worthwhile alternative.
