  • Bristol 2 is Pop Tastic, Mate!

  • Woo! Fourth place!!! We'll take that!
Ermmmmm....I am not happy with that!!

  • Ace games today. X

  • Yeah, thanks to everyone who came. Shame we couldn't get 10 teams, and some teams got harder games against the random team than others, but I think everyone had fun.

I for one would like more of these smaller one-day tournaments where it feels like you get nigh-on a weekend's worth of competitive polo squeezed into 6-8 hours. It seems wasteful to have 30-60 teams and loads of people hanging around or getting knocked out after one day.

There'll always be a place for bigger/get-together and party tournaments, but having smaller tournaments and qualifying by region or ability could work if we had a body (UKHBPA?) to manage the format and allow teams to move up and down as they improve or get shitter.

We could have A/B/C tournaments (today would have been a B tournament), and maybe next year (wink) Sandbaggers would move up to A ranking and be eligible for A tournaments...

    Just a thought.

  • Thanks Dan and the B'ham crew for sorting today out. Was a most enjoyable day. I agree with your last post Dan. It was good to play in a tourney without all the tourney hassle and waiting about.

Stabbath played brilliant btw, especially in the final. Well done to SoYo too for beating us 7 something. I am glad we were able to make you happy by handing you that win. Next time we play you, we will take it seriously and play our best ;-)

See you all at the next mini do!!

  • Weather was good, games were perfect, I really liked playing with you guys, hope we can do it again asap:):)

I think that this size works really well, you have enough rest, enough games, probably a double, if we have more time, but thats it. Teams were almost in the same level, so had a lots of fun on the court!! Who's gonna host next?:)

  • OK I wasn't much help to Eli & Leah, who both played really well, but we all had a great day out! Thanks everyone!

  • SoYo's will to win was inspiring to watch.

About 9 minutes in to their game against Bristol Meth, 5 or so goals in the lead, Chris in goal shouting 'Driiiiiive' at Andy (?) as he races towards another one on one. Awesome.

The final was a great game to play, but fair play to Cambridge, the best team won.

    Just.

  • Thanks for setting this up dan and the rest of the birmingham polo lot for making it happen. was a nice day out in the sun, playing some really fun polo and seeing how the uk scene is only moving onwards and upwards. soyo were awesome, but the real player of the day for me was Ady from bristol, his game has really changed and his hustle and play on the court was not only great, but very challenging to play against, nice one Ady!

I think if we continue to do these one day events, I am sure that the 'rest' of the uk scene will grow and improve into the 'A' level soon enough....

Cambridge will happily host one soon enough.

thanks Bham, had a fun time. great to try out 700c again in a competitive environment too, i feel like 26" has a lot to answer for now, it felt so much easier to play on a 700c equipped bike.

  • Thanks B'ham! This was more fun for me than normal tournaments. I had much more time on court and much less waiting around. This needs to happen again soon.

Bogey: Your front 700C did a good job in blocking your own shots quite a few times.

  • as everyone has said, was a well good days polo. look forward to doing it again soon. bristol will happily host, but i don't want to do it until we've sorted out our current court which has shitty sides.

Results after 5 rounds of Swiss:

    1. Sandbaggers
    2. Black Stabbath

    4. SoYo Polo Co
    5. Cup-A-Soup
    6. WRISTS

    10. Pop Tastic, Mate!

    Top 4 after single elim:

    1st - Sandbaggers
    2nd - Black Stabbath
    4th - Team Warin
    4th - Cup-A-Soup

Thanks everyone for coming down/up. It's a great way to bolster the UK scene as a whole and help improve the game of players and teams that will sometimes not get a look-in.

In my opinion, one of these every 6 weeks or so would be awesome. The benefits of 'no frills' means it can be pushed back or forward a week depending on weather.

  • That was great. Thanks to all. Particular thanks to Rich and Paul for carrying me. It is a good thing I'm fairly light...

  • ^ looks like we left a bit too early...

  • (metaphorically carried).

  • but the real player of the day for me was Ady from bristol, his game has really changed and his hustle and play on the court was not only great, but very challenging to play against, nice one Ady!
    .
Nice one Josh. That means a lot coming from a player who I consider to be one of the top guys in the sport! Cheers fella.

  • a player who I consider to be one of the top guys in the sport!
Nah Ady i think your getting Josh mixed up with Louis from london, it's an easy mistake to make.
