I agree with you both - just disinclined to undo all that work on the stripey tape!
That said, if I'm going to change the stem then I might as well...
The white tape from before was the same tape, just wrapped the other way up so that the blue stripe was hidden so I'll probably re-wrap like that. Either that or get the whole thing powder-coated in blue to match the tape (this might be a case of the tail wagging the dog)
And yes, there will be a shiny silver seatpost when it arrives in the post - although the saddle is black cos that's what I approve of (I know that there's an argument that the carpet should match the drapes - but then again there are black hoods which need matching with something)
