How straight is your chainline and how round or centred is your chainring? Both can cause clicks and creaks from the drive train. Does it make a noise with the chain off?

My chainline appears to be pretty straight and wha'chu mean by how centred my chainring is?

You can get tight and loose spots?

For example, the chain on my Dolan is slightly tighter with my left foot forward

i get you, I tightened my chain up last night and it's still making the funky noises

48/18, thinking about going to 17

I have 48:17 on my dolan, pretty nice gear, go for it.

I'm used to 46/15 on my Dolan and 48/18 means my legs are going just that little bit too fast than i'm used to.
Don't suppose you have a spare 17t lying around?

I only have a cheap 16t in my parts box

yeah, I'm pretty sure every rider has a spare generic 16t cog somewhere
