I have this hub on my Twenty I'm on 44x25 which is plenty.
In top gear it is the equivalent of 52x12 on 700c
The bottom gear is about the equivalent of 42x32 on 700c
If I were you I'd go with 44T, the hub is on the list in Sheldon's gear calculator, so you can compare it to what you know.
Hi. I have a rear wheel built with an 8 speed Sturmey hub in it (8 Speed Hub X-RF8(w)), wot i bought. I want to buy a bike into which I'm going to insert this. (strange idea it may be, i dunno, but forgive me this, if it is. I have a bad back and my SS is exacerbating it, plus I like hub gears)
I just want advice on what size front chain ring I'm going to want.
Living in North London, but not climbing up Muswell Hill very often means big climbs are not a big issue but smaller ones need to be negotiated without further nacking my bad back.
What sort of ratio and therefor ring am I going to want?
Would a 48/25 ratio (like http://sheldonbrown.com/org//raleigh-twenty/) be suitable? And if so, what size chainring would that require?
