is this true? I thought you had to buy a little conversion kit (a new ratchet in the shifter) and retrofit the shifter's yourself?
I've never heard of the shifter conversions. I know people who run a problem solver inline (before the deraileur) which changes the cable pull. With this you get the spacing perfect over 10 gears but lots of people also even don't bother with that as the difference is so tiny. If you stayed 8sp your spacing is different again.
