I moved out here about a month ago to Kanazawa, I don't currently have my bike with me but when i flew out Virgin Atlantic would have taken it for free as it is a piece of sporting equipment, so check that with your airline.
All of the people I see riding fixed around here ride with 2 brakes so I think its advisable, I am going to see about getting my bike shipped out/building a new one here and if so would be well up for a ride.
