What's that saying about people who assume things?
Heh, I misunderstood the ambiguous sentence.

And I hear today that williamshatnerpants had her bars and Dropout had his saddle and seatpost stolen from outside the Haggerston last night. Be very circumspect about leaviong your bike outside that pub. Lots and lots of theft reports.

Not a stolen bike, but someone snipped cables and nabbed my handlebars, complete with Campag Centaur Ergo shifters. Probably pointless posting about it, but cathartic n'all. If anyone is offered suspiciously cheap shifters please get in touch....
Same modus operandi as with the bars theft ^ I just mentioned. Not too far apart geographically, might well be the same perpetrator.

There was a red norco faze 3 being riden around by someone who didn't seem like the owner in south Manchester, probably the wrong forum but if anyone knows anything let me know and I may be able to help get it back. Or point me to a forum with mountain bikes for northerners.

I've been day-dreaming about this recently, **what do you do if you spot a stolen? **
I'm a smallish, usually lone female and the idea of confronting a thief is somewhat scary.
I was thinking, quickly post a call-out on here for backup and follow them around/home?!
Or go under the guise of "oh nice bike, you're kinda cute, maybe we could ride together, what's your number?" hair toss
Or..."nice bike, thinking of getting one like it for my sister/boyfriend/etc where do I buy one like this from? oh you want to sell it? great!"
Or...?Then what? Post it on here I guess?
I like the idea of a community of people banding together and protecting each other from dirty thieves. I would probably do one of the above.

^I wouldn't advise any kind of contact with suggested thief. If they're the kind of scumbag to steal someone else's property, you don't know what else they're capable of. Best thing you could do is see where they go, but at no time putting your own safety in jeapordy.
Or you could just D-lock them.

• #9217
^^ yeah... just call the police 101 and post on here! you sound lovely though, if only everyone was!
-
• #9218
spotting a stolen often isn't spotting the thief though. usually some doof who 'acquired' it.
+1 to police, but are they always reported, even the ones that get posted on here? and is 101 the local number - do they know/care if the theft is reported elsewhere? -

Now I'm day-dreaming about D-locking a thief.
I'm not a violent person, but I've always secretly wanted to D-lock a passenger window...Totally right about some doof acquiring.
I guess you do what you can do, and do it safely.

Try and get the D-lock around the neck and on to an iron railing..

Just read about an incident in Victoria Park (NW entrance, Gore Road) on Saturday 25th Aug at 19.45:
Claud Butler Urban 200 Hybrid was stolen.
MIght avoid such entrances after dark now.

Just had one offered to me for £30! It has to be nicked!

Has anyone had one of these stolen recently? Just seen quite a dodgy guy riding it about half hour ago outside oxfam on Kingsland road. Just didn't quite fit with him...
Scum, sub-human scum.
